Joining the Navy - BRNC/DSUS schemes - anyone else?

Hi

My DS1 (18 this week) is hoping to get into BRNC for Naval officer training this Sept.
He started off on the DSUS scheme for uni/post-uni but they moved him onto the officer scheme instead.
He’s passed everything he needs to do so far.
‘Just’ 144 points to get in his A-levels. 🤞

Has anyone else got a DC doing this? Or has done it recently?

I’m struggling to find boring but useful info about BRNC, like term dates, family weekend dates, etc.

I assume they will send him stuff at some point, whether he remembers to share it with us is another matter 🙄

Just wondering if anyone out there knows, or is going through similar.

Congratulations to your DS for getting this far and being offered the DSUS scheme. It looks a great scheme.

Has your DS been to the CPC yet and had his medical done? Getting paperwork from the GP to the Royal Navy tends to hold up most applications.

He’s done the fitness assessment thing where he stayed overnight, was that CPC? I’m not sure.
I’m not aware of them waiting for anymore paperwork, I know we filled out the medical form ages ago.

I have found the admin side incredibly slow and at times, incorrect. But he assures me it’s all done now. It’s just a case of getting through the next few weeks of exams, then waiting for results day.

Can you share with us how your DS got on the DSUS scheme? Is there a rigorous selection process? Is it for all 3 services? What happens if you do not go in the military?

I have never heard of this scheme before and I am sure other parents/students would be interested if they knew more details.

LivingInaBuiltSite · 24/05/2024 20:49

As far as I know it is valid for all 3 services, definitely navy and army. I don’t know anyone who’s gone into the RAF this way.

ds1 did all the work tbh, started with Google and went from there.

i am unsure what happens if, after uni, they decide not join up, but it must happen sometimes so there must be a plan for that.

the DSUS scheme mostly looks at STEM graduates/hopefuls, so they do expect a high academic level.
