Hi All,
Is anyone helping their child prepare for UCAT and med school applications for 2025 A levels? Looking for any guidance and support out there.

Presently we're

  • looking for UCAT tutoring to help DS in the lead up to the test which she wants to sit in August
  • talking about what schools she might apply for
  • supporting her in her A level revision
I'd love to hear from others

@PiggyPokkyFool she'll also get some from SFE (was £1,700 2 years ago). But it's crazy how little they get in their last year (when they can't even do paid work).

Thanks @mumsneedwine
As expected she just got the basic £1000.
Both DD's only take the fees from SFE ( something we agreed with them before they started to keep their debt down a bit as both will probably pay it all off with their course choices).
I realised that when I put " we really could use it as I was made redundant a few months ago and have no income currently" - I should have put: we could really use some free money as I was made redundant a few months ago and have no income currently so won't be able to support as much as usual.
Luckily she has managed to get a paid role related to the course which will be both practical experience and a bit of money too and DD2 has managed to get a year in industry so is self sufficient this year. I also have always had a sideline which does generate an income .
Think I was just having a ' why do the DC never qualify for anything because of our income' moment.
Thanks for your help as always!

I work in the team that processes these bursaries.

please get in touch. Advise us you income has gone down by at least 15% and ask for a reassessment. Provide us with the redundancy letter and a short note explaining you were redundant x

We had a few sessions from
medic hut. Found them very good

PiggyPokkyFool · 25/09/2024 18:06

Thanks for that @Thefatbutteredpig They requested a letter from me confirming I hadn't worked between redundancy and now which I provided.
I suspect, even on just DH's salary, we will have too high an income to qualify. I'll pm you if that's ok rather than put figures on here.

Wonder if anyone can advise? My daughter will be sitting UCAT in summer 26 but I am already looking at holidays (we left it late booking places for this summer and lots of places were already booked) but I’m not sure about dates. Should we try and get a UCAT date in late July/early August to get it out of the way before we go away and she can enjoy her holiday with nothing hanging over her, or a later date and go away earlier so that she has a few weeks to practice when we come back, or it is it feasible that she does some work while we’re away? We plan to go for 2-3 weeks and I’m conscious it is a big chunk out of the summer when she might want to be practicing for the test.

Anyone any thoughts? @mumsneedwine maybe?

mumsneedwine · 13/02/2025 18:29

@SuperSue77 I'd get it out the way before you go. Doing 4-6 weeks practice should get you to peak performance.

SuperSue77 · 13/02/2025 18:33

Thanks @mumsneedwine - you are super quick! I posted the same query in a facebook group and still no coments 3 days later!

mumsneedwine · 13/02/2025 18:41

@SuperSue77 I'm just making dinner and had phone in my hand 😂

Mamaof2cuties · 03/03/2025 08:07

Hi @mumsneedwine can you please share your dentistry entry requirements 🙏🏾 Also, is it the same UCAT that dentistry and medicine applicants sit?

If anyone's aware of a dentistry thread similar to the medicine 2025 entry one, I'd appreciate if you can please let me know. Applying for 2026 so just getting heads up.

Thanks.

Mamaof2cuties · 04/03/2025 18:39

I've been able to find this online if it helps anyone in future. Seems to be one every year. Search dental schools entry requirements

https://www.dentalschoolscouncil.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/DSC-Entry-Requirements-entry-2025.pdf

Also this for medicine (updated annually)
https://www.medschools.ac.uk/studying-medicine/how-to-apply-to-medical-school-in-the-uk/entry-requirements

And UCAT is the same.
