Newcastle Uni 2024 Accommodation Portal now open

My DD recently firmed Newcastle and she’s just been on their website and been able to use the advanced booking service to reserve her accommodation.

This is a different system to what they explained when we went to an Open Day in September - they said then that she would have to select her top 3 and then she would go in a ballot.

She now has the room she wanted, she just needs to get the grades!

Seems like they’ve changed their procedure so thought I’d share in case others weren’t aware.

Oh dear, DD is waiting for the offer holders day later this month to make a final decision.
Well I suppose if she does go for Newcastle first she will have to get a wriggle on

PrettyCherryBlossom · 03/04/2024 18:20

@Hoppinggreen Apparently they’re releasing the accommodation in weekly batches so hopefully she’ll be fine.

Thank you, I am pretty sure Newcastle will be 2nd but who knows? She may fall in love with it

Loadsofmoggies · 03/04/2024 18:35

Good hint, thanks very much.

Thank you for this info - my daughter is choosing between Newcastle and Sheffield - I am panicking about accommodation but she wants to wait for both offer holder days 🤯

PrettyCherryBlossom · 04/04/2024 19:07

@Randomactofkindness I think the gradual release of accommodation will help if your daughter is waiting for her offer holder days. My dd had already decided her top 3 accommodation choices (as per the conversations we had at the open day) so was happy to take her favourite when it showed up on the portal. If none of the 3 had been there she would have kept on checking every week. We were told it would be a random day and time each week.

Accommodation was a complete lottery when DD was there (2019). She was in Park View in her first year, which was very handy for the medical school. It was only a year old when she went and was in good condition. The en suite bedrooms are small but well designed with plenty of storage.

Newcastle is a brilliant city to be a student. It is compact and, far from the coast and has plenty going on. The metro runs to Whitley Bay and Tynemouth regularly, and Tynemouth has a brilliant market in the station on weekend mornings.

Most students live in Jesmond from year two.

DS is still waiting to hear from Newcastle. It’s his first choice too. Surprised they can open accommodation before sending out all the offers

Newcastle is NOT far from the coast.
