Hi
Anyone DC had good or bad experience at undergraduate computer science course in (Brunel /City/Westminster / Queen Mary).
we are looking at these Univs, I appreciate any experience that you had with it, from the course structure to the campus anything you remember . Also did this course benefit your child in getting job in IT .

My first thought is that QM would be the best university out of the list.

Advice400 · 18/02/2024 10:25

Have they considered an IT degree apprenticeship?

@Lambiriyani Thank you, did you have any experience at Queen Mary ? Or just because of the name as I am aware it is part of university of London.

@Advice400 Yes we looked mainly the Queen Mary degree apprenticeship, but I was told a lot of negative stuff about apprenticeship ( from not having time to study, companies will teach what they need and require for specific services not rounding experience). We were thinking normal degree and maybe summer internship in companies he is interested.

so I appreciate any feedback from these universities

Both.

QM is in mile end/east London and isn't really the nicest area come to mind. But academically it's a lot better.

If he is hoping for internships ask how many students managed to nail these opportunities in recent years.

My friends daughter chose a 4 year degree with industrial placement. She had to find the placement - she spent hours applying, and I think, only she and about 3 others of her cohort managed to. The others transferred to a 3 year degree due to a lack of opportunities. To be fair, this was not IT, but I would take what Unis say with a pinch of salt unless they provide the stats to back themselves up.
