Reserve List MT College

We have just heard that DD (17) has been placed on the reserve list for BA Musical Theatre course at Arts Ed. Can anybody with more knowledge than me explain how this works and what the likelihood of offer is? This was the first of 8 auditions - we are new to all this!!

I don't have direct experience of this as my DS is on an Acting degree, but lots of his friends do MT at various colleges. A waiting list offer for Arts Ed is a real achievement, so well done to your DD. To be honest, as I understand it, it may or may not turn into a place. DS's friend was initially on a waiting list for MT degree at Arts Ed and that did then turn into an offer of a place (but by that time she had decided she wanted to go somewhere else). Is your DD auditioning at a few other colleges? Sounds like she must be very good and may well get more offers, so maybe just let the process play out - she might decide she prefers another college anyway, or if she doesn't there may yet be good news from Arts Ed.

@Biscuitsneeded thank you for the response - I just wasn't too sure how a reserve list worked. Yes although its not a firm offer she is really pleased to have got this far particularly with ArtsEd as she deems it to be the best. She has further auditions lined up for Emil Dale, Conti, PPA, GSA, Mountview and Urdang. Hopefully she will receive an offer for one of them - her preference at this point i think would be Urdang but she will be happy with an offer from any of those. It's certainly a rollercoaster!!

I don't know how true it is, but the reserve list may not be 'ranked' as such. Some colleges will look to balance their cohort, so if a tall, voluptuous brunette alto declines their place and your DD is a petite blonde soprano, she may not be offered that place, but if someone similar to your DD declines, she may get an offer. Who knows how it all works? I do know that not everyone does accept their place, because Arts Ed is seriously expensive, so if they get an offer from eg GSA or Urdang some people will prefer to take that. Or they may accept initially and them drop out once they have another offer. Don't lose hope.

@Youarenotseriouspeople a drama school auditions thread has been started in this forum today. You might want to repost on there for more traffic?

Youarenotseriouspeople · 11/01/2024 19:28

@Biscuitsneeded ooh thank you for the heads up - yes will do.

We heard this week that my son has also made the wait list for arts Ed. We are wondering what the chances are of a space becoming available.

That's brilliant news - well done to your son! He must be delighted. @Youarenotseriouspeople How has your DD got on? I hope things have worked out for her and she's got an offer she's happy with too.

Youarenotseriouspeople · 15/04/2024 18:11

@Jaynebec ah that's amazing!! Well done to him you must be thrilled.

We haven't heard anything further from Arts Ed (and not holding out much hope tbh) but yes she has an offer from EDA she is happy with but still got Urdang and Conti recall to come next week so we shall see. She hasn't had any out and out rejections so far so she's pleased with how its all gone. I'm personally glad we're coming out of the other side (for now) Smile

Pleased to hear your DD has a good offer and a possibility of more! When you say no rejections, does that mean she also has a couple of other reserve list places? Fingers crossed for her !

Youarenotseriouspeople · 15/04/2024 18:47

@Biscuitsneeded no she has a degree offer from EDA and PPA, foundation recall for Mountview (but not proceeding as she wants a degree course), and recall for GSA (not proceeding as she doesn't feel its the right fit for her). So just Conti and Urdang to go. I think if she gets something from either of those there will be big decisions to make 😬

can i ask where your daughter ended up going in the end?

we are going through this process just now. DD has a degree offer for PPA & Bird, and is waitlisted for BAMT at GSA & TL. Still has recalls at Conti, Urdang & EDA to go in the next 2’weeks but starting to panic a little. GSA is her dream school closely followed by EDA but the top up fees do put me off a little especially as there are no student halls.

will be glad when all this is over with

Youarenotseriouspeople · 25/03/2025 12:25

@Mrsg26
She’s at EDA and absolutely loving it.
The fees do sting a bit but i am confident that everything they say they will deliver for the extra money is in place. The training is top notch, high contact hours, strong focus on discipline but balanced with a duty of care for student welfare. I am really impressed with them as is DD.
Good luck with your DDs decision making - its a brutal process.

Thanks for replying, so happy your daughter is happy on her course now. I have a feeling if my DD gets Urdang, Conti or EDA she will 100% choose to go to EDA. A friend of hers graduated from EDA last year and loved it.

does your daughter live in a flatshare or commute? There is just so little accommodation available in Letchworth for students, wish they had built halls along with their new premises 😆

Hi, yes i agree student halls would be so much better and it was stressful getting it sorted but everyone did get sorted. She’s in a flatshare in Hitchin with her friend who she fortunately knew previously.
The estate agents are used to the yearly influx of EDA students and if your daughter decides to go, i can pass on the details of who we dealt with because she was really helpful.
It’s hard though just leaving them in a private rent miles away from home but its surprising how quickly they adjust.
