When are Oxford entrance test dates confirmed?

Hi
DS is thinking of applying to Oxford next year.
I'm thinking of going away next October!
Do you know when the dates for the entrance exams are announced?
Is it soon or in the new year?
Thank you

Think it's around June of each year with deadlines st the end of September.

JesusWeptLady · 28/10/2023 17:28

I only know this year's date. It was Oct 18th for the exam and registration was during the month of Sept.

geoger · 28/10/2023 17:29

Register in Sept, UCAS form in by 15th Oct, entrance tests usually a few days later

Hughs · 28/10/2023 18:52

Yes, I think the tests are always pretty soon after the application deadline and that's always 15th October (except if that's a weekend like this year, when the deadline was 16th).

chickenpieandchips · 29/10/2023 09:38

It was October 18th this year. But in half term here. Next year half term moves back a week so just wondering if the date will be moved back too. I was hoping it might be announced earlier than June.

Surely your son will need to spend half term preparing for the entrance exam, if it is the following week?

I’d plan a lovely holiday for the summer after A levels so everyone can really relax and enjoy it.

Hughs · 29/10/2023 11:46

As far as I know it has nothing to do with half term (which isn't the same week everywhere anyway, it's just started here). But always soon after the application deadline, which is 15th October or close to it.

chickenpieandchips · 29/10/2023 12:05

I'm not going away before his exam. Our 2 week half term starts on the 19th. If Oxford keep the date the same then it will be done before half term. If they move it back a week we'll go after he's done. But I can't book until I know. And if I won't know until June I'll probably forget the idea.
I'll speak to school.

It was mid half term here this time. But if it's the usually week of the 15th then that's good to know.

Last year the MAT was on November 2nd but I believe it was 2 weeks earlier this year so it's probably best to wait until dates are announced rather than try to work it out in advance.

chickenpieandchips · 29/10/2023 13:56

I saw that. I know there were a few glitches on the tests and they are using a new provider this year so who knows what's going to happen and when!

Be aware that there could be extra exams. My DS will have an extra MAT exam in a fortnights time due to the technical issues with the first one, so we had less than 3 weeks notice of this!

chickenpieandchips · 29/10/2023 16:36

The whole MAT thing seems a bit of a shitshow,
That exam is not until November so well clear of any holidays but not what you need is it. More study when you are probably wanting to study for A-levels having blitzed maths. And how much notice of an interview will you get?
Saying that I think my Oxford exams back in the day were beginning of November.

@chickenpieandchips I agree MAT is a shitshow, like many other DC my DS will be right in the middle of mocks and has coursework deadlines. I think the interviews are the second week of December, so not much notice will be given with MAT2 being mid-November!
