Would we be daft to turn up anyway for a general look around?
We’re visiting family nearby anyway so wouldn’t be going out of our way. I’m guessing we wouldn’t get into any of the talk etc but we could get a feel for the place at least. Are there staff ‘policing’ entry dues anyone know?

Exeter are just about to start building a significant new cluster of on-campus accommodation called West Park, for which they got planning permission in June. They’re also converting catered accommodation in Birks to self-catered to meet demand. Those who accept offers for 2024 may want to bear the resulting building sites in mind when drawing up accommodation preferences!

They also emphasised that there was no problem with accommodating all first years in halls, which goes to show how accommodation is becoming an increasing factor when choosing between that level (Bath, Bristol, Exeter etc).

They only guarantee accommodation for the first year if you firm which is an important point.

My DS is at Exeter and some people in his hall came through clearing and still got accommodation offers. He thinks they reserve some accommodation for those that come through clearing as that gives them a way to pick up strong students who just missed their offers for unis like Oxbridge, UCL, LSE, Imperial. And he is in a nice, relatively popular hall. Also he know people who didn’t get their first choice allocation of hall and have managed to move later.
