Daily Mail University League table...

In my scanning of news online I found it...
No subject tables.
Can only look at headlines on free version. Not seen a Daily Mail table before. Guessing new for them.
Obviously, as with all tables pinch of salt needed!

Boy3, that was from the Dacre days. Things have softened since. Not least the bylines of some notable left wing feminists have started popping up. Strange days.

GodessOfThunder · 11/09/2023 21:47

I guess, as someone pointed out earlier, it makes sense as a commercial proposition for them. The rankings will no doubt drive traffic, including beyond their trad reader base.

Obvs the DM and universities have not been natural bedfellows in the past.

The brand was in danger of becoming toxic for some big advertisers.

And they no doubt can see where the wind is blowing.

The Times is out behind a paywall. My ds got free article to have a look. He is going to Bath next year. He chose Bath over Surrey for politics and IR after a big dilemma... Surrey 11 (I think for politics) and Bath 21 in Times Guide. Interesting...ds has his phone again so can't check!
Other way round for CUG and Guardian.
Well done Surrey politics department though...I liked them!

The politics department at Surrey seems small and friendly. Bath department much bigger.
Well, ds made his decision!
It is odd how different other tables are...

I have just bought the Times for their 96 page supplement on university and can't find it! Man in papershop couldn't either...
Are we both just missing it?!

Nor mine dinky. In their excitement over their Russell Brand stuff, they obviously forgot at a national level.

same here @DinkyDaisy. No sign of any supplement at either a co-op or Tesco. Looks like either too much effort for the distributor to put it in, or for the ST to have it delivered to them in the first place.

I know I’m in a different part of England to piggy, albeit I think we are both on the more eastern half, so maybe it’s not just localised ineptitude.

DinkyDaisy · 17/09/2023 10:36

I have sent email to their help line. Did phone free phone number but too many in the queue.

I am south east England.

Not usual guy in our local Tesco Express and he was shirty with me. I went as far as saying 'well I have wasted 4 pounds' before stomping off. That told him! Now worried I will be banned from my local shop for rude attitude!

I think many league tables are far too full of red herrings to be useful so having one you can personalise to what's important to you is useful. A lot of the time research quality etc can push an institution up - this has little relevance to an undergrad (can actually be a negative)

I've only glanced at it but it seems to lack the option to select by subject so that's a negative. We know some unis have great reputations for certain subjects.

DinkyDaisy · 17/09/2023 11:09

I think can do subject specific with the Times on line. I do know subject ds doing higher on CUG and Guardian this year than the Times....I do think large pinch of salt needed with all league tables.
Anyway, he has got his place starting next September so perhaps should stop fussing!

Theyre all up to date right now? So if I am looking at UK University Rankings 2024 on the Times website today (and Mail, and GUG, and Guardian) they are all latest and greatest right?

DinkyDaisy · 17/09/2023 17:25

The ones you mention are all 2024 now. For ds subject 3 rank about the same and one a bit less. Actual univesity rank about the same for all.
I think do have to be careful with tables though...they all have different way of skewing data...

I live in London. Bought mine at Waitrose; it included the insert. I think St Andrews only tops the table because Oxford and Cambridge refuse to give any data on teaching quality or student satisfaction.

DinkyDaisy · 17/09/2023 18:13

In haven't looked in detail at any of data collection on tables but wonder if big cohort vs small for a course can make a difference, etc...
