A level re-mark

DD is one mark off a grade for Biology and is getting it re-marked on recommendation of school.

She's also 4 marks off Chemistry and school have said she could consider a re-mark of 2 papers but they've also said "as we do not have access to mark schemes yet, we are best to leave interpretation to senior examiners at this time."

So it sounds like they can't give us a steer around whether she should get her chemistry re-marked.

We've no experience of re-marks so hoping to hear other experiences.

She doesn't need this for uni as she's taking a gap year and already has an unconditional offer for 2024 so this would just be for personal satisfaction.

What would you do?

Do you know if remark can be done twice on the same paper? My teacher said 3 marks could be possible but got only 1 mark.

No.

But you can appeal. It's very expensive, and you can only appeal if you think the correct process hasn't been followed.

@mrsconradfisher How did your review turn out please? We are 12 marks off grade boundary with similar Paper 2 and 3 results in OCR PE, lots of TV everywhere...we had dismissed review but with only 1 day left to submit I found your thread and am now thinking we should just try...

We got it back within 24 hours, he only submitted 2 papers and he got 6 extra marks. 2 were from the marks not being added on correctly and 4 were from the mark scheme not being applied correctly!

Am back with an update, I posted back in August about DS's A Level biology, he got a C with 124 but was 1 mark off the 125 needed for a B (AQA). We'd heard nothing back so I emailed his sixth form college yesterday, the remark came back on the 30th August but DS hadn't got it as they sent it to his college email address after it had been disconnected!

Anyway, his grade has changed to a B, he had a free remark on paper 3, and now has 125. I suspect they've taken seconds to do the remark, and as soon as they've found that 1 extra mark needed, stopped ie, job done.

He's pleased, we're pleased. It may only just be in the realms of a B but it means he now has ABB instead of ABC. Biology was always his nemesis, and we'd paid for additional tuition via My Tutor as he failed his Year 12 mock.

Reviewers do not know where candidates are in relation to grade boundaries so this is not a possibility.

That’s great, well done! Quite shocking though.

To conclude: after reviews went from A, B, C to A star, A, high B.

at this point we'd run out of time, fight and money. DC had committed to the reserve Uni and we'd stumped up a considerable sum to secure accommodation.
DC is understandably a bit wobbly at Uni and the whole review and regrade business hasn't helped. the first choice uni did hold the offer of a place but deferred for a year, fair enough but too late. all a bit of a nightmare.

It clearly says on the AQA website, 20 calendar days for the review of marking and unless I’m interpreting it wrong that’s 20 actual days not working days.Yesterday was day 20 and we have heard nothing. For some reason this has just about tipped me over the edge…I’m furious about it (completely irrationally so!!).
Either say it’s going to be a bloody month or get it done within the 20 days like they state.

These poor young people have had their grades destroyed by the grade boundaries, lost Uni places, have papers marked wrong and now they can’t even get them reviewed in the time they state. DS is just so so fed up of waiting, we’ve been in this weird limbo since results day and it just needs to be sorted now.

Apologies, rant over. I’m going to be even more if the grade is still the same when it comes back!!

yes exactly, and also it might be the case that further on in the paper a mark or marks would be docked, so they would always check the whole paper. They are not "looking" for marks, they are assessing the paper as a whole.

Ah meant to say @mrsconradfisher thinking of you and your DS and hoping you get the result he needs.
