Plymouth University - when do halls open?

Probably getting ahead of myself but we live 7 hours away from Plymouth and just trying to organise staying down there to (hopefully 🤞) drop DS off.

Does anyone know when year 1 students will actually be able to access their rooms? Registration is Monday 18th Sep so assuming it is some point over the 16/17th?

Also wondering if slots are scheduled so 1000s of cars don't all rock up at the same time?

I have tried emailing but of course administration is all currently focused on results day.

Hi Passé, my son is also starting but he is in private halls (Astor) so I don’t know I’m afraid. His private halls have got a system where you have to book a slot to try and prevent everyone turning up at once and I would be surprised if the uni halls didn’t do the same. I expect your DS will get an email about it after results day.
DS is turning up on the Saturday (16th).

Yeps I imagine they will give you a slot. We were able to choose with Dd but we’re near do not an issue. I’m thinking you will want an afternoon one @Passe !

Fever

?? Phone mistyped

Generally you get a slot but they aren't strict. If you are coming a really long distance you can request a certain slot to facilitate it. If you are that far away it's worth looking at an overnight stop, Taunton premier inn was ok when I stopped there.

I’m driving straight there, leaving early, but will stay a night in Plymouth. DD is coming along for the ride and we will get him settled, leave him to it, maybe meet for brunch on Sunday, and then do the long drive home. Looking forward to 20 hours or so by the sea!!

Passe · 14/08/2023 20:00

Thanks All!
So assuming we will have a slot on the Sat or Sun we will provably stay 2 nights as such a long way.

I live in Plymouth, that weekend the city centre is a no go, it's hell, allow time to be stuck in traffic and queuing, no where to park. Sure feels like everyone turns up at once!

Delphigirl · 15/08/2023 00:32

I booked my hotel last February 🤣

Thanks for the heads up! Thought it might be rammed. Going to book somewhere to stay asap

Hope your DC got what they needed to come to Plymouth. Once they have completed the accommodation on-line induction there will be a subsequent email with a moving in slot. This page from their website is helpful.

Well done to your DS @Passe ! I gather from DS there is quite a lot of online admin to do with enrolment and filling in eg medical forms and uploading photos for student cards etc. His department also have a pretty full program of induction starting on 18th and including a field trip at the end of the week, together with info about kit etc, and have asked them to download various apps etc.

So I would make sure he sets aside an hour or two on a quiet morning to get all that done.
