Strike action for September has been cancelled following an agreement to end pay deductions for union members taking part in the marking and assessment boycott. Not sure how they'll move forward from here, but it's a start.

University of Edinburgh pauses pay deductions as strike action called off

The University of Edinburgh has agreed to end pay deductions for union members taking part in the marking and assessment boycott, with strike action…

What has been called off is strike action, not the marking and assessment boycott (which is deemed to be "action short of a strike").

Different universities have been making different levels of pay deductions from staff taking part in the MAB. Where those deductions have seemed unreasonable, strike action has sometimes been called at an institutional level, in addition to the ongoing MAB.

Sorry to disappoint...

But haven't they agreed to mark as a priority as soon as the MAB is finished, so if rumours that UCU have left the reballot too late for a continuous boycott are true, there should be a window in early October when the marking can be done.

I presume the university agreed to this hoping there would be a window to get marking done, otherwise they have lost their leverage by reducing deductions. Alternatively they may have thought appeasing the union members may make them less likely to vote for further action.

Don’t think it’s going to make much difference
DS got an email saying no results/ degree until November at earliest
Just do your job
Just heard yesterday pal’s DC can’t proceed on to Masters course
Absolutely disgraceful

Glad that Freshers and Week 1 strikes are cancelled.

I thought most Masters would make decisions based on results available (Edinburgh said they were doing this for their own masters). Most students should have at least 1.5 years of marked modules (although year abroad students might have only 6 months) plus results from earlier years.

Local strike action cancelled. Now national strike action called for end September.
