Where to go for advice re benefits and student finance?

A young person I support has been on Universal Credit for some time, including the low capability for work element due to disabilities.

Their ambition is to go to university, and I've supported them to apply and they've been offered a place for this autumn.

However, no one seems to be able to tell us how UC will be affected by student finance - the Uni know lots about student finance, and the YP's advisor knows lots about UC, but no one seems to know how the two interact and YP doesn't want to leave it to chance and find they've got no money (currently have an adapted flat which would remain whilst commuting to Uni)

Can anyone point us to somewhere that might have experience of both student finance and UC to give advice?

Thank you

You could also post on the Facebook group WIWIKAU, it's very active!

(What I wish I knew about university)

You can also search universal credit on the save the student website but I'm not sure if it will help.

My daughter was in the exact situation. They have to take the maximum loan offered to them and dependent on this will decide how much universal credit they continue to receive. For example my daughters universal credit was wiped out by her loan so her entitlement was 0 meaning after 6 months her claim was closed.

Also there’s a really good group on Facebook called students on universal credit who can help you work it out.
