Late offers? Why?

So many seem to still be waiting.

Teens have been through a lot, am sure in my day we heard pretty promptly & if we had predicted grades I never even knew.

The American system feels much more straightforward & less stressful.

There’s also the issue of deferred places from last years cohort (and the year before that affecting them in turn) when lockdown affected teaching/course content.

Universities wont want to make more offers than they have places for and I think that’s affecting the drip feed of offers. Saying that many are simply following a similar pattern to previous years.

My daughter got St Andrews, Durham, Bristol & Edinburgh offers (predicted 4 A stars) and has now put her choices in as she recognises others are waiting. She’s not visited one of them but says that’s fine as we live quite a long way away and she’d rather revise.

It seems very harsh, dd had to wait a long time to get the offer she really wanted and now because she wants to change course is having to wait until late May to have this confirmed, until she hears this she can't reject her other offers (which have allowed her to change ...) Friends still waiting on places like Bristol and Durham and a whole load of St Andrew's rejections - including to several with Oxbridge offers - only came in last week.

DS got a rejection from Durham tonight.

They seem to be releasing rejections in bulk now - a lot for Economics, History and Law applicants, some of whom have stellar achieved grades. Crazy.

DS seems fine about it which is good - just glad the wait is over
