DS is considering applying to Oxford for psychology and linguistics.

Most unis don't offer this course so at his other choices he'll just be applying for straight psychology. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this in his statement? (AFAIK the unis won't see where else he has applied). Would you aim the personal statement at the Oxford course (and so discuss both psychology and linguistics) or just talk about psycholgy?

Wouldn't linguistics be part of any psychology course?

The ps is relatively generic and there is an overlap with psycholinguistics, language development etc. most unis won't put much weight on it so best focus on the Oxbridge application criteria.

@HandlesFruit , apologies if this one is already on your radar, but has your DS considered the Psychology and Language Sciences degree at UCL? I teach on a related UCL course and know many of the staff who run the BSc/MSci PALS programme and some of the students. It is a relatively new course but gets excellent results and is rated highly by students, and I can thoroughly recommend it for someone interested in both linguistics and psychology.

Check if the Oxford course allows a substitute personal statement. The programme I run at another university allows a substitute statement that comes just to us which allows our applicants to get around this problem.
