Do offer holder days give you brownie points?

Probably a ridiculous question.

DS is in year 13, has sorted his first and second choices, and we have received emails from both inviting him to offer days.

Neither he nor I particularly want to go. It's a long way, we had a good look around at the open day (including a sample lecture), and he's not planning to change his mind. He'd also have to miss a day of school, as they're on week days.

Initially we agreed he wouldn't go, but I'm suddenly wondering if attendance at offer days is noticed, and shows that you're keen. I'm thinking, if he doesn't quite get the grades he needs, and we're begging the university to take him anyway, will attendance at an offer day improve his chances? Or does no one take any notice?

A few years ago knew of DSs friend got an offer of AAA from Leeds for chemistry. Part of the day included an interview where he was introduced to a new concept and a shared questions well.when he flunked his A levels with BBB they still offered him a place on the basis of his interview. In fact when he phoned about something they fad to go away and check he had really gad an offer with those grades!

I went, even though I had to fly for them and had unconditional offers for both. I'm so glad I did, as it did make up my mind clearly about which uni to pick and I am so grateful I picked the one I did. I'd have hated the other one with hindsight.

So, I think I'd go. However, in my case, I was undecided between the two and both were equally good universities.

My daughter is Y13 and he same, she got offers off reading and chester and shes been to the unis on open days, and also visited the city on another occasion so I dont think it matters too much if you dont go.
