Exeter or York for insurance

DC like both and visited. It will be insurance choice. Predicted A*.

Exeter wants AAA and York AAB.

York has an older PPE course. But is Exeter better for prestige, or not?

Feedback from anyone having done PPE or economics would be most welcome.

Why not both? You get 5 choices.

I assume you DC is going for Oxbridge. That leaves 2 more.

I have a DC in York doing Economics. It seems to be managed well and their friends doing PPE also seem happy. As a city they couldn't have asked for better, and as a graduate who picked course over area, this was a big thing for me.

Which does your DC prefer? How confident is your DC about making his/her grades.

York is the safer insurance, and I am not sure that Exeter is more prestigious in most people’s perception. I think they are on a par.

DN graduated from York PPE 18 months ago. Loved it and now in London with one of the big accountancy firms.

To be honest I think they are similar and with all the rail strikes would be giving some weight to which is easier to get to.

For an insurance I'd go for the lower offer - AAA as his insurance choice doesn't give him much wiggle room!

What is the first choice? I would say chose which they prefer - my dc is firming Durham and insuring York - there is one grade different between the two (not PPE)

I had DSs in both ... York wins hands down!

What’s the accommodation situation like for both of them? I know some universities do guarantee accommodation for insurance but not all.

My ds looked into putting Exeter as insurance but was put off as it says on the accommodation section of the website that they are unlikely to offer halls accommodation to students who put it as their insurance choice.

How so?

I'd insure the lower offer. You never know what will happen on the day, even if you're generally a straight A star student.

ExeterYork ... this is, of course, just my experience but Exeter attracted too many entitled rahs for my taste. I'd chose on the quality of the course (where York also won).

Which does your DC prefer as its them who will have to work/study there.

However both York and Exeter have issues in terms of accommodation for insurance students. York is well known for opening accommodation ultra early. Exeter has a lack of places. Both problematic, as such you can't really have that as a factor.

I would go lower offer just in case.

But it comes down to where would DC prefer - quiet town in Devon with not a lot going on outside the campus - but good if they like countryside, walks, sea. York - larger city.

Although York isn't exactly a larger city..

I was a student in York. It has a very small, intimate place feel. The city centre is very compact.

Both have accommodation issues but Exeter is probably worse due to tourism. Neither guarantee halls for insurance offers

Looked into it a bit.

York guarantees accommodation for first year insurance students, Exeter doesn’t.

They liked both, Exeter campus closer to the main action and prettier. York campus brutalist and a bus ride but lovely City. York course seemed more impressive.

Small city, campus all ok, we live in London so DC totally not bothered about a big city experience. Wants to have a classic uni experience. I went to Uni in London and it wasn’t the same as people I know who went elsewhere.

I would go - lower offer + better course + guaranteed accommodation.

Plus if they’re used to London Exeter is awfully small and quiet.

ooh that’s new if York guarantee accomodation for insurance people (my dd will insure them) as they used to say different!
