If we move overseas will this affect DSs student finance?

We might need to move overseas (outside of the eu) for DHs work. It isn’t something we can really avoid for various reasons. We are all British. We will sell the family home and buy overseas.

DS is hopefully about to start a degree. Will this affect his student finance?

I think he should still be ok since he has been resident in the UK but does the fact that we won't have a home in the UK affect things? In the holidays he will come to us in the US.

If he has and is resident for the three years prior to starting he should be ok. However SFE and uni may query it in subsequent years.

If you went abroad for work purposes then he remains ordinarily resident in the U.K. There’s a really helpful website which helped with examples of case law on this.

Yes he's been resident in the UK his whole life. But once we move he won't have a home in the UK so does that mean he's no longer resident?

Fee status is set at point of entry, so assuming he starts this September and remains in the UK till then he'll remain a UK dom for fees purposes till his course ends.

Note if he transfers course that will reset his fee status.

Thank you that’s helpful. I thought that it was assessed year by year
