Impossible to calculate GPA!

I want to apply for a master's degree in another country, but most universities require me to fill out a GPA score.
My country doesn't work with GPA. and not only that, we don't even have those A/B/whatever scores.
All we get is a score of 0-100 (with a passing score of 50/55, depending on the course), which is not relative to the rest of the class.
I tried making this score into a GPA, but my country's scale is really different (The average isn't very high usually, I don't know anyone that finished with over 91, most people in my class had around 80-85) so it translates to a pretty high GPA, even though it's counted as a low score for other countries standards.

I'm afraid if I write the local GPA they'll think I'm lying because it doesn't look logical, but if I'm writing the American-scale GPA I'll never get anywhere 'cause its too low:/

any tips?

Don't they have an admissions person/department you can ask?

YerAWizardHarry · 18/12/2022 23:22

Common grading scale maybe?

The university you are applying to might have guidance on this. At my (U.K) university we have conversion charts to help us work out the equivalent result when students apply with GPAs or “true” percentages. These vary according to country. From memory, A UK first is s 4.0 GPA (U.S.), 2i = 3.4 or above.

You might find equivalence data online.

Hi, OP -

Former UK admissions tutor here. Definitely contact your prospective department(s) about this. I would assume that your first message will go to an administrator, so I would just ask who you should contact about the fact that your country’s numerical marking scale is different to others.

Good luck
