Sorting out open days!
Next week ds may do the University of East Anglia and the University of Surrey. Also has looked at Bath, Bristol, York, and Nottingham.
Cardiff because of the Doctor Who link! [Not visited yet...]. Lincoln cos a friend mentioned it.
Head is done in! Predictions A star, A, and B with an A star in his EPQ under his belt.
Politics is his thing...
He is likely to defer if he can but wants to get an application in soon...
Any views or other suggestions?
Thanks...

Interestingly none of those except Surrey were on ds radar for Politics/IR! Warwick, Southampton, RHUL, Lancaster, Kent, Reading, Kings London? He needs to ask about the stats element if that appeals or not.

DinkyDaisy · 15/10/2022 15:55

Thank you. He worries that his B prediction mucks up any Warwick application [though who knows on the day], Southampton perhaps should look at. RHUL has a virtual on the 19th Oct I see. London universities he should perhaps think about...
Kent is based in Canterbury for politics and IR?
I used to live in Reading so for some reason not considered it! No reason why not though.

Any Maths element should be fine for him. Unlike me a bit of an all-rounder subject-wise...

Is he looking for straight politics / Pol & IR / PPE?

QMUL ask for ABB. My ds is at Manchester doing Pol & Phil. I know people at Sheffield who r very happy. Bristol are AAA except for Pol & Social Policy.

Thats a lot of open days!

Hull do a Westminster internship I believe.

DinkyDaisy · 15/10/2022 22:46

How many open days are people doing? Works out expensive if do a lot!

3 - 2 others we’ll possibly visit if get offers.

for my oldest child - 0 - Covid.

None of those were on my DS’s list for politics except Bristol but they look unlikely unless your DS is eligible for contextual.
instead of Kent Surrey UEA in that bit of the world you should look at Essex which has one of the pre-eminent politics depts in the Uk. Then Sheffield, Birmingham, Hull. Manchester might be a stretch but check. York is pretty much the only one on your list I would think about keeping.

DinkyDaisy · 16/10/2022 07:46

Bath and York lovely cities and both had things ds liked politics-wise. Taken aback by some of the student accommodation at York. However, told him a nice duvet and a few posters help any room! The more modern buildings looked better and actually at York likely to go for the cheapest self-catering accommodation, not on the main campus.
Surrey looks like it is on the up league table wise though need to be careful with that I know. I had not considered Essex.
A weekend in Cardiff may still be on the cards some time- further afield!
I am pleased ds planning to work for a year as does have the option to start again with actual results if need be...

Newcastle? Great student city. Combined honours course might be of interest? Might be eligible for a PARTNERS lower offer eg AAA becomes BBB although to be honest that’s a solid set of predictions and I think many places would offer on that.

DinkyDaisy · 16/10/2022 08:01

Thank you.
It is overwhelming isn't it?!
He is so pleased he did his EPQ and did well on it though had a miserable Easter holiday as left stuff to the last minute!

Ds very impressed by Surrey.
More so than any of the other universities he has been to.
Yet, if goes well he will do better than their requirement of BBB.
However, at moment it is the one he is most keen on. Felt an excellent subject talk and looks like more contact time than other universities he has visited.
Interesting...
