Anyone else's DC applying to dance conservatoires?

DD wants to do contemporary dance. She's particularly interested in applying to the conservatoires as she likes the look of the practical syllabus compared to the uni courses.

Anyone else's DC applying this year? It'll be the first time anyone in our family has gone down this route and I'm a bit nervous about all of the auditions etc.

Hi, @MissisBoote I noticed your thread hasn't been answered so thought I'd give it a bump.

My DD wants to apply to conservatoires for acting, and yes, it's a whole different ball game from just applying to university.

I can't contribute as my DD is in year 10 so at the moment looking for performing arts schools for sixth form

However will watch this with interest

Thanks for the bump @LynetteScavo

DD is trying to write her different personal statements - have been advised to make them very unique to each conservatoire.

Is your DD applying this year?

@chopc I wish we'd looked into this but covid meant we didn't really properly consider options and DD hadn't fully decided that this was the route she wanted to pursue.

Yes, DD is applying this year, but wie prepared to take a year out if it might means she gets to go where she really wants to. We've been told by one conservatoire that although they read personal statements, they don't really pay much attention to them like universities do. That might not be true for all though - DD hasn't started writing hers!

DD has started her UCAS one. Just waiting for feedback from her dance teacher before shortlisting. She's found quite a few uni's that she likes the look of too. I think she'll end up applying to about 10 places including UCAS so hopefully she'll get offers from at least one 😬

My daughter graduated from Musical theatre college. Some of her peers at vocational school did go onto contemporary dance schools.
