Just that. Does anyone have any recent experience of either?

Looking for DS1. We are based in the SE.

Sorry York is 4hrs

Can't speak for York but can speak for Cardiff (as per the name!):

Good things about it include:

*Cheap to live / rent (maintenance loan goes a lot further than elsewhere).

*Some gorgeous and historic university buildings

*Capital city buzz and culture

*No transport costs as uni buildings and main student area is so close to the city centre

*Good sporting opportunities

*Very active student union and lots of other nightlife

*Distinct culture, something quite different from home (we're also from SE England).

I concur

York is great too though!!
I think, as long as expectations aren’t raised too much , most teens will be happy wherever they end up! As they won’t know any different

@titchy Economics. Other 3 are Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

Surrey and Sussex are lower grades and have the option of a foundation year if he has a shocker at lower grades again.

He's familiar with both towns and favours Surrey.

Back up choice not a problem. Thanks for your reply

Kent also offers Economics with a Foundation Year, I think?

So that's three which he has identified as potential insurance choices. As there are five slots on the UCAS application, why not apply to both York and Cardiff?

Thanks for all your replies. Very useful and I do appreciate it.

Now to tackle the personal statement. Thanks again ✌️

Sorry bit late to the chat. I have a child at both. What I really like about York is the College system. It gives you a sense of belonging.
Cardiff is really cheap and that is a benefit for my daughter as she is studying medicine and is currently in Year 5.
But it totally depends on the type of child and the course.

marmiteadict · 19/10/2022 17:57

@shalom1 thank you very much for replying. York definitely seems a better fit for DS1 but Cardiff is a lot nearer.

Thank you for that information:)

As someone who went to university in a different country to my family, don't worry about distance! Go with what your child prefers. My daughter fave so far is 8 hours away.
