Hi. Has anyone got advice on finding a week residential ( or non residential in London) cookery course for an 18 year old niece ? She prefers vegetarian food and the only good courses I know ( eg Orchards) are meat heavy . Thank you.

What a brilliant idea. DD is vegetarian and loves cooking. She found a lot of inspiration from watching YouTube videos and other cookery shows.

I nurtured her interest in cooking at home, so by the time she started at university she was a very good cook. After 3 years of being away she is now a truly excellent cook.

Leiths has lots of different courses.

Excellent idea. Wish we'd thought of it.

DD has a Nosh Vegetarian Student Cookbook that she likes.

Quite a few had recipes for 4 people which defeats the object I think.

Try this...

DD did the two week chalet host course which usefully included cleaning and housekeeping. It was an investment that paid off in spades. The one week cookery element is very focussed on what you have in the fridge/cupboard (and what you should have in your fridge/cupboard) and DD is now able to throw together something delicious from virtually nothing. It has saved her so much as she has never had the need to order takeaways. The cleaning/housekeeping element helped her get her full deposit back after her various tenancies, though Ideally she would put these skills into practice when at home. .

I note they do a one week vegan course. I feel a bit sorry for vegetarians as vegan seems to have become the default.

Thanks all - I’ve sent the ideas supplied to my neice.

Cooking meals to shate with flatmates or friends? Batch cooking of recipes suitable for freezing?
