Due to renew own house policy and want to cover dc in private student accom rather than buy them insurance separately. Which companies can you extend to cover students? Can’t seem to find a way of searching for this on the comparison sites.

I have up to £10,000 of student cover on my Nationwide contents insurance - I think the actual amount depends on how much your own contents are covered for.

NFU Mutual cover students' belongings in university accommodation as standard, but not in a private rental. Both DDs needed their own policies when moving out of university-owned accommodation.

Admiral does while in halls and living out if the room has a lock.

John Lewis covers students living away from home.

I took out a separate policy for my daughter yesterday with cover4students. The Insurance Emporium also does student insurance (but doesn't cover lap tops over 3 years old). You do need to add additional lap top and phone parts to the policy. I am with Admiral for my home insurance but wasn't keen to add her in case she needs to claim as then it would affect my policy.

We have multi-coverage through Admiral. So home, car, and uni student flat (private rent). The student policy also includes possessions ….so if a laptop or bicycle gets damaged or stolen going back and forth to lectures- it’s covered.

Don't most? If you ask? We will ask ours for ds1 this month.
