Has UCL said anything about in-person teaching from Sep 22?

I know UCL has done a lot of hybrid teaching this year, but have they announced anything for the next academic year? DS has firmed an offer for Economics but hasn't been told anything about teaching mode. I work in Bloomsbury and it hasn't seemed as vibrant as it used to be pre-Covid, so hoping it might start to get back to normality.

My DS has also firmed an offer for Economics. Marking.

We were told at our offer holders tour a couple of weeks ago that they're supposed to go back to full face to face teaching from September.

That will be a shock to the system for my son. He has only been to one or two in person lectures all year, being the orientation ones.

Listened in to an online open event with maths dept on thurs 26th and it was stated there that the plan was everything in-person from September 22.

They said my kid would have blended learning last year but had less than a handful of in person lessons the entire year. Spent less than 60 seconds with the tutor in person the entire academic year. Apparently continuing blended in 2022/23. Very unimpressed with UCL.

Caminante · 01/06/2022 21:59

It is 100% face to face.

There is no other option because the government has decreed this is what is happening!

parietal · 01/06/2022 22:31

I teach at UCL and have been doing in-person for the last year. Other courses may differ.

FreedaDonkey · 01/06/2022 22:33

Someone asked what unis are face 2 face on WIWIKAU the other day and this was one of the ones that people said yes to.

ShinyHatStand · 01/06/2022 22:39

UCL have told all UG programmes that their amount of face to face teaching time must return to prepandemic levels for the coming academic year. Very few exceptions will be permitted to this.

This and all other guidance given to staff is available here:

Thanks all. Great to hear things are getting back to normal. I have another question. The UCL website says the academic year start on Mon Sep 26th 2022, but my DC's offer letter says the course starts on 1st Sep. When do they need to be there? And when will Freshers week be? (DC has a driving test on Sep 21st so I'm hoping there won't be a clash).

Academic year starts 26th September, freshers week will be the week before that.

Caminante · 02/06/2022 00:14

Sorry no, looks like Freshets week starts on the 10th sorry

Caminate, as my DC has a firm offer, I'm surprised that information about Freshers Week hasn't been sent to him. Are you sure that's a genuine website and not a scam? It isn't in the official UCL domain, and doesn't look very professional.

Also, the UCL accommodation contracts don't start until Sept 24th, so it seems very strange for Freshers Week to start on the 10th. 🧐

There is apparently an "Induction Week" starting Sep 27th, so that sounds like the official start: www.ucl.ac.uk/information-studies/information-prospective-students#Induction

Looking at info for incoming international students from the previous year, the week of 26th September is the 'induction week', which would fit with contracts starting on the 24th. Universities are increasingly shying away from calling this week 'Freshers week', with all its connotations of Bacchanalian excess (Freshers week everywhere includes actual, often compulsory, university sessions, plus the thought of possibly enforced 'fun' was apparently causing distress to an increasing number of new starters).

Caminante · 02/06/2022 08:52

Yes you're right! It was very late and I wasn't paying enough attention 😂

Was racking my brains to remember what happened last year but not very successfully.
Induction starts on the 26th and actual teaching the week after.

Darhon · 02/06/2022 08:57

Even in campuses with a full return to face to face teaching this academic session, the consensus is that they remain quiet.
