If you haven't heard from a University by now - 4th May - is it going to be a NO?

It would just be nice to know but not expecting much! Anyone still waiting or had an offer this late before?

I have a DC which as heard back only from three of five.

One has been in touch saying they expect to offer/decline by deadline, but zilch from the other. Don't know if its worth emailing to find out what's up. I asked DC to get schools advice on whether to email, but they don't seem to have done anything. They're very downbeat about it.

kitnkaboodle · 04/05/2022 22:01

Not still waiting, but my DS heard from his final 2 choices only last Wednesday. Both came through on the same day. Both offers. I'd definitely email if you're puzzled by the silence. It does seem ridiculous now A levels are practically under way ...

Ethelswith · 04/05/2022 23:19

Its getting the reluctant and despondent DC to email that's going to be tricky!!

Great that your DS got offers even this late on @kitnkaboodle !

cardentisul · 05/05/2022 08:48

kitnkaboodle that's encouraging! It does seem stupidly late especially with no email updates. I've got the same problem Ethelswith, my DC won't contact them.

My DD didn’t hear from 2 unis at this stage some years ago. Both were still saying applicants could apply. These were courses requiring lowish grade A levels and a portfolio. DD had been interviewed by one but never heard anything from the other. She just declined them herself. She got the two offers she really wanted. It’s very poor though. If DC are not too bothered and have decent offers elsewhere, maybe decline and apply for accommodation at a uni that did respond?

paddingtonbear1 · 06/05/2022 22:39

DD only just heard - she got rejected from MMU. She has autism and needs to live at home so had only applied to one uni, she's not sure what she will do now :(

burnoutbabe · 06/05/2022 22:46

I checked my Email

I got my last offer 23rd May (applied pre the January deadline)

And I had already got my results (was a second degree in my case)

And just finished that degree last summer.

Why didn't she apply to Salford/Bolton/UCLan/lancs/LJM etc? Would Open Uni be an option?

paddingtonbear1 · 06/05/2022 23:45

@Useranon1 From where we are Liverpool/Preston would be a bit awkward to get to, but I'll get her to look at Salford again. Plus maybe even Sheffield.

TizerorFizz · 07/05/2022 00:09

Sheffield to Manchester isn’t easy!

Sarahplane · 07/05/2022 00:48

I'm still waiting to hear back from one of my choices. It's my first choice, I had an interview but still haven't heard anything back from them. I've called them to ask and they say I'll get a decision by the 19th but not holding out much hope now.

Thinking I'm probably be on a reserve list or something waiting for someone else to turn an offer down, but what happens if they're all waiting for decisions from other Unis until the deadline and so on? Or if they don't get the grades?

Longtimenewsee · 07/05/2022 03:46

@paddingtonbear1
is Keele too far? My Dc has autism and went there. Very good support

paddingtonbear1 · 08/05/2022 22:08

@Longtimenewsee it's a bit far if she needs to live at home. Did your DC live away from home? I'm really not sure DD would manage that at the moment.

Longtimenewsee · 09/05/2022 05:08

Only for 1 year @paddingtonbear1 .it was first year but second year of degree as he did a foundation year. Lived in “quiet” halls . Still struggled tbh and ultimately preferred to commute and have routine of home but he wanted to try it and it was a useful year in terms of life skills!
Salford would be worth looking at .. it was Ds’s only other real choice if he wanted to live at home. I would suggest a lot of talking to student services at any uni you are interested in.

Oblomov22 · 09/05/2022 05:33

The sensible thing is to email. But most dc won't want to do that, understandably. So that gives you no alternative but to wait.
Makes me so cross. As if this cohort hasn't had enough to deal with! Angry

Sheffield to Manchester isn’t easy!

The OP may live near Stockport, that’s on,y 40 minutes to Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam is practically by the station.

PAFMO · 09/05/2022 06:02

My DD is still waiting for one.
As a flurry of offers/rejections for this course at this university went out about a month ago, I am presuming they've either a) put her on a reserve list b) forgotten her.

Ethelswith · 09/05/2022 08:01

The last two responses turned up.

One was offering an alternative course. The other a rejection.

Now considering a gap year

VintageGibbon · 09/05/2022 08:03

DS2 only heard back form 3 unis and one of those was a rejection so he ended up with only two offers. It was a real knock to his confidence at the time but he ended up at a great uni and is loving it.

cardentisul · 09/05/2022 11:04

Ethelswith sorry to hear that.

Still waiting to hear from final choice. Already has grades so not sure what is holding them up !

DC went to the GP last week and was diagnosed with reactive depression. The last 2 years have really taken their toll (on so many I know).

Unis worth looking into that haven't been mentioned -
Bolton, Academy 92 (in Stretford), Edge Hill if you could get to Leyland daily,
UCEN is the university branch of Manchester College.

cardentisul · 18/05/2022 19:07

Still not heard ...

OP posts:
RubyReigns · 18/05/2022 19:12

Uclan have a campus in Burnley if that’s easier to get to than Preston. Smaller than most unis too so might be worth looking in to for your dd.

cardentisul · 20/05/2022 13:48

So after all that waiting DS got a "declined" last night which is apparently an automatic thing if universities don't respond to your application.
