York University vs Birmingham University - tell me the pros and cons

DS is currently deciding which offer to firm for September. He has applied to study History. He's narrowed the offers down to two favourites - Birmingham and York.

If you have any experience of either of these universities please share (the good and the bad) to help him decide!

At the top of this thread (I'm on a laptop) there is a blue lozenge that says start new thread - use that and you should be able to navigate everything!

I have a DS at Birmingham so may be able to offer input.

@DogStrummer I stumbled across this thread and your post by chance, and am intrigued. I was also at York in the 90s and haven't kept in touch with many people ........ except loosely with someone (and his lovely wife) who is definitely the person you are referring to!

Which makes me think that you and I may have lived in the same shared halls 😮 Can I ask if you were in Langwith?
