Anyone else's DC applied to Imperial? Any news?

I've posted this on other boards, so apologies! But I literally only know of @Panicmode1's DS who has heard back. I have both my DSs applying there this cycle for Mechanical Engineering. DS2 did online test in November, DS1 doing it this week as only applied there just before January deadline. No word whatsoever yet for DS2. Anybody else waiting for Imperial?

... and, after all that ... another day with no news for either of them. 😬

My son just got an offer through at 10pm tonight! Total surprise as he expected a rejection after he didn’t do as well on the MAT (maths) but the offer is not easy, and he will need to think about it. 3 A*’s (that’s his predicted grades) and grade 2 in STEP 2 & 3!! He wasn’t planning on sitting Step, that’s why he applied to Oxford not Cambridge because of the step. So he’s going to have to think carefully as the Step is on same time as A levels. He’s still waiting on St A and Edinburgh, I think he’s tempted by Imperial as he can stay in London (he would commute)

That's awesome, @Darbs76, but how bizarre to come through late on a Sunday, and ouch to the offer! What subject is it for- Maths?? Both my DSs are for Engineering. The one who has an offer from Cambridge 'only' has to get A A A Confused

@kitnkaboodle - yes Maths. Seems a few got an offer too at 10pm from them looking on the student room. It could potentially be a distraction from his A levels as he never intended to sit STEP, hence he applied to Oxford and sat the MAT. Guess they’ve given him another chance. But will wait and see what St Andrews say before making any decision.

@Darbs76 what do you know? My DS2 heard from Imperial at 10pm tonight Shock It was a no, but he has an offer from Cambridge so he doesn't really mind. A bit of a shock, though, after his Imperial interviewer concluded by saying 'Hope to see you in September' 🤷‍♀️ But the 10pm thing on a Sunday is odd ...

@kitnkaboodle oh my goodness. What is this 10pm Sunday thing?! Sorry it was a rejection, but who cares when he has a Cambridge offer. Other way round for my DS, rejection from Oxford! DS has decided not to bother with the imperial offer as he doesn’t want to sit the STEP paper and he got an offer from St Andrews on Thursday so he was really happy with that.

kitnkaboodle · 21/03/2022 08:14

Oh well - Imperial's loss then! How random all these decisions seem ..

@kitnkaboodle - absolutely their loss. It is so random isn’t it, seeing so many top students turned down this year.

Gardenia2 · 21/03/2022 15:02

@kitnkaboodle sorry about the Imperial rejection but congrats on your ds's Cambridge offer.
Interestingly my ds is also the other way round - he was rejected by Cambridge but just received an offer for Imperial!

kitnkaboodle · 21/03/2022 16:41

Well done @Gardenia2 's DC!

What a flipping lottery! As far as I can remember, there's only one poster on the Oxbridge thread whose DC has got an offer from both. I don't feel there's much to choose between Cambridge and Imperial for STEM subjects in my humble opinion, so good on them all!
