@BigWoollyJumpers your dd shouldn't feel bad for going out. My view is that while everything is open and if the person in question isn't CEV or particularly anxious then why not? This strain is mild and numbers are going down now.

chopc · 30/01/2022 19:03

Was wondering how your party went @bendmeoverbackwards so lovely to hear your update

How is it going with DD3?

OP posts:
Pumpkintopf · 31/01/2022 18:46

@BigWoollyJumpers that's dreadful, your poor DD. Glad she has some flatmates who are looking out for her at least. Poor love, bad enough without feeling ostracised!

@bendmeoverbackwards so glad the party went well. Sounds like you had lovely birthday celebrations, really pleased for you.

BigWoollyJumpers · 03/02/2022 14:42

Thanks for all the good wishes for DD. She is still testing positive day 7 (argghhh) even though she is now essentially better. She is getting quite down about it unfortunately, but it seems she is now not the only one. The university went into her BF's flat today and tested everyone on PCR as a mandatory exercise. She thinks they are going in to flats with lots of positives, in order to get them all to isolate, as they are saying not everyone tests positive on LFT. Not sure that's correct, nor ethical, but I suppose if you are on University grounds, you are under their rules?

bendmeoverbackwards · 03/02/2022 14:57

Not great with dd3 @chopc thank you for asking. Her school attendance is very erratic, not sure if it's due to genuine anxiety or a teenage power play thing. She said this morning if I didn't stop 'stressing her out' she wouldn't go at all (and by that I mean I was standing in the wrong place or didn't get her lunch out the fridge). Someone at school is going to speak to her today.

@BigWoollyJumpers sorry to hear about your dd. Hopefully she'll get a negative result soon.

In other news, my Bristol dd has covid again! She went out with friends for her birthday on Monday night and tested negative before she went. Tuesday morning she did 2 more tests, one of which was positive. And she knew from last time it was covid although she seems to be worse this time. I think she's starting to feel physically better but she's miserable being stuck in her room. And to top it all, I sent her an expensive birthday cake (via a Bristol bakery) to enjoy and share with her friends. She now has the whole cake in her room which she will have eat herself as obviously no-one will touch it. It's too big to finish herself so most likely will be wasted.

AvocadoPlant · 03/02/2022 18:01

@ bigwoollyjumpers sorry to hear your DD is still not testing clear, she must be very bored! Hoping she gets a negative result soon.
Very interesting re the uni testing everyone in her boyfriends flat. As you say not sure it’s legally permissible but if it helps to curb cases then perhaps it’s justifiable?
(Not sure I agree with it tbh but would like the case numbers to reduce so am sitting firmly on the fence!)

@bendmeoverbackwards lovely to hear the party update but I’m sorry that your youngest is struggling, must be very stressful for you all.
And of course, so sorry to hear your DD has covid. What absolutely awful luck to get it over her birthday, my heart goes out to her. Just when life was restarting!

So my tale of woe is that DD is currently sat in A&E waiting to learn if her foot/ankle is broken or merely badly sprained, The irony if an injury caused while out dancing is that she’s now very unlikely to be able to take part in an inter-uni dance comp later in the month.

bendmeoverbackwards · 04/02/2022 22:32

Oh no @AvocadoPlant your poor dd 😢 What’s the update on her foot?

I’ve just had a horrible row with dd. She’s sort of managed this week isolating and perked up a bit yesterday. But today she’s feeling super sorry for herself as her flat mates are going out tonight. She was hoping for a day 5 negative result but it had a faint line. I do feel sorry for her but my God the moaning! Numerous FaceTime calls, WhatsApp messages, it’s not fair etc. The last call I got a bit impatient with her to which she said I was ‘blaming’ her. Goodness I thought these teenage strops would be over by 19 🙄

chopc · 04/02/2022 22:37

@bendmeoverbackwards ....... to be fair I had a tantrum as well when my day 7 LFT was negative but then positive again on day 8 🙈. Had a massive go at my husband for bringing me the wrong brand of LFT 🙈🙈🙈

bendmeoverbackwards · 04/02/2022 22:42

Oh no @chopc how bloody frustrating. How long did it take to get 2 negatives?

Maybe I was a bit hard on dd but sometimes tough love is called for!

chopc · 04/02/2022 23:41

Days 9 and 10 were negative after which time I was going to be out anyway

OP posts:
Longtimenewsee · 05/02/2022 01:26

I agree @bendmeoverbackwards.. sometimes it is called for. I too am learning to distance myself a bit from DD’s remote rants. She does like to moan!

On a nicer note we have been sending postcards to each other. I started it when she first went away but she has reciprocated which has been very sweet. Usually just a snapshot of whatever we are doing ( pets feature heavily on my part.. cafes seem to feature heavily on hers Hmm) . Her postcards are much nicer than the ones I can find showing where we live though!

It occurred to me today that they’ll have to apply for next years student loan again soon. I presume they get notified by Student finance when they have to do it?

@AvocadoPlant.. I hope your DD’s ankle was not broken. Either way, I guess she will miss out on her dance which is a shame

AvocadoPlant · 05/02/2022 09:23

Fortunately it’s only badly sprained but has meant apart from her trip to A&E on Thursday, DD has been pretty much confined to her room/flat since Wednesday as she can’t even get into the uni (about a 5-10 min walk from hall) and is also bored, fed up, in pain, and moaning at me.

A pair of crutches would help but none were offered at the hospital, and she’s rejected my offer of an Amazon delivery of a walking stick.

Like @bendmeoverbackwards and @Longtimenewsee I’m learning to distance myself a bit as there’s nothing I can physically do to help and she wants to stay in Exeter.

Hoping your DD gets her negative result Bend. I think having to stay in when everyone else is out partying is also what caused DDs strop.

In theory DD should be going to a dance rehearsal today, but unless it’s improved overnight she won’t even get there, and either way she won’t be dancing today at least.

bendmeoverbackwards · 05/02/2022 09:33

So sorry to hear @AvocadoPlant that’s really rubbish for her. Can’t believe they didn’t give her crutches, did they say why not?

Dd phoned to apologise last night, bless her. She pointed out that she HAD generally been positive about the situation but I hadn’t seen that and she phoned when she needed a bit of a moan. Can’t argue with that logic!

Longtimenewsee · 05/02/2022 09:49

@bendmeoverbackwards…lol.. smart kid Smile

Longtimenewsee · 05/02/2022 09:54

@AvocadoPlant. That is a bit pants .. can’t believe they didn’t give her crutches. I hope it mends soon

AvocadoPlant · 05/02/2022 17:38

Thanks for the support guys x

SeasonFinale · 05/02/2022 18:01

I don't think they do get notified from memory with DS1. I think the onus is on them to remember to reapply for Student Finance.

chopc · 05/02/2022 23:33

Such bad luck @AvocadoPlant . Hope she heels soon

Good to receive an apology @bendmeoverbackwards

What a lovely tradition to have started @Longtimenewsee ! I am lucky to get a few words from DS now and then 😔

Hope your DD is negative soon @BigWoollyJumpers 🤞🏽

Pumpkintopf · 06/02/2022 01:40

Crikey folks I had no idea they had to reapply every year for student finance. Apparently applications open in March. Thank heavens for this thread!

Longtimenewsee · 06/02/2022 11:30

Thanks for link @Pumpkintopf. I knew they needed to but not when

raspberryrippleicecream · 10/02/2022 00:18

Another positive student here! We saw him on Saturday when he was competing at an inter-uni event, and brought him home with us so he could go to his orthodontist appointment on Monday. Returned to uni on Monday and tested negative on Monday, then tested positive Tuesday am. He was doing daily tests because of a uni contact and in fact it's sweeping through the group now.

DH is worrying about the contact now we have been told to daily test. I've been daily testing for weeks as I work in school and have constant positive contacts!

Have to say, the same day uni welfare delivered a food box with masses in it, fresh as well as tinned!

Longtimenewsee · 10/02/2022 07:50

Oh no @raspberryrippleicecream . Sorry to hear that. I hope he isn’t feeling too rotten with it? Also hope everyone else in your home remains neg.
Glad to hear of his care box of food though- that’s very good. Unis have had plenty of practice by now I guess.
Dd has swerved outbreaks in her college so far but a study partner for one of her modules has it atm so she is testing every day.

chopc · 10/02/2022 08:27

Sorry to hear about your DS @raspberryrippleicecream . Hope he has a smooth recovery

OP posts:
AvocadoPlant · 10/02/2022 08:48

@raspberryrippleicecream hoping your DS recovers quickly and that the rest of you remain negative.
V impressed by his uni, I think DD said that they found you needed to call welfare who would then charge you for supplies if isolating.

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/02/2022 12:47

Sorry to hear @raspberryrippleicecream it really is rife in some places. Hope he's not too bad and tests negative soon.

Dd was lucky, she tested negative on day 6 and 7 so she was released in time to see a Drama Soc play. It really did her good to be out after a miserable week.
