My ds has applied to Glasgow, Stirling and Aberdeen, has only had an email from Glasgow saying no decisions will be made till UCAS closing date, just wondered if other unis we’re doing the same, also slightly worried he’s not had an acknowledgment from the others.

When dd applied last year Glasgow was the last Uni to get back to her and then they asked for a subject she wasn't sitting at advanced higher!
She went to Strathclyde instead

Bratnews · 28/12/2021 20:05

In my experience it’s not unusual to hear after the deadline and actually more usual to hear Mar/Apr

My daughter submitted her UCAS application 2nd week in December. She applied to Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Dundee, Aberdeen & Glasgow College of Art. She’s had offers back from Strathclyde, Dundee & Aberdeen. GCA have asked for a folio and she’s still waiting to hear back from Edinburgh.

Ds has applied for engineering at Strathclyde, Glasgow, Edinburgh and has had emails from all 3. All have said not to expect anything back until after end of January deadline and implied it could be as late as april/may. It is going to be a looooooong wait for him.

it depends on the course and how many applicants they usually/expect to get.

His friends have applied for other subjects and got conditionals, one was physics with teaching at Strathclyde, the other got two conditionals for architecture courses in Glasgow but not sure where.

Is engineering quite a competitive course? We are waiting on one too (but in England) so wondering if they will also wait until after the deadline.

TequilaShot · 01/01/2022 18:10

@HGC2 my son didn't hear a thing from Heriot Watt until they offered.

It will be a combination of engineering and the cap on Scottish applicants at Scottish unis.

rUK applicants to Scottish unis are likely to get offers sooner.

DS - Scottish applicant - applied last year to Glasgow, Strathclyde, Aberdeen, Heriot-Watt and Edinburgh.

Strathclyde and Aberdeen came in January (UCAS deadline was extended last year), Heriot-Watt after that, Glasgow and Edinburgh were VERY slow, it was Easter before he heard back from those two.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/01/2022 20:26

Was that engineering @MarshmallowFondant? If ds hears from Strathclyde for mechanical engineering in January he'd be very happy!

Waiting until Easter will be tough especially if it is a conditional offer and he needs to prioritise studying a particular subject.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/01/2022 20:51

Just got ds to check his emails and what dates they say they will reply by:

Strathclyde - March
Edinburgh - end April
Glasgow - 19th May

😱 too late to prioritise studying then!

From another thread, Edinburgh are good at publishing data on applications / offers / acceptances etc.

www.ed.ac.uk/student-recruitment/admissions-advice/admissions-statistics

For instance, for home students the mech eng offer rate has been between 43% and 49% for the last 3 years.

Biomedical Science. It might have been early February but it was definitely within just a couple of days of the UCAS deadline, which I think was pushed back to 31st Jan last year. All his offers were unconditional which just meant he totally took his foot off the gas for the rest of S6, especially as they weren't in school.

Strathclyde are on holiday until 10th, so don't be holding your breath.
