Anyone know how the BTEC Level 3 in Art and Design is marked?

Hello, sorry if this sounds like a silly question. My DD is almost a term in on this course. So far she has handed in two modules. Each time there was a ‘marking week’ when they don’t go into the college as teachers are marking the portfolios. However, they don’t get any marks back, or feedback at all.

It’s a bit odd as they have no idea as to the standard of what they are producing, the grade they are working towards or where they need to improve. Do they not find out anything until the end of the first year - or perhaps not until the end of the two years?

The BTEC Level 3 is the same UCAS points as three A-levels, but I can’t make head or tail of the assessment process.

It’s not clear on the BTEC websites and I can’t get hold of the teachers in the college. DD says none of the students know what’s going on.

Thankyou if anyone can help!

When my DS2 was doing a level 3 BTEC, the assignments were marked then handed back for resubmission with corrections to be made. Some modules were done in parallel depending on the teachers specialisms but it was clear as you went along how you were doing. It sounds like the college either has some issues with their teachers, poor administration or maybe absence due to covid. I found college was very reluctant to talk to parents, very different to school, but I’d start making some waves. FE colleges are very poorly funded compared to schools and the quality of teaching staff at DS2’s college varied enormously and there was a high turnover of staff.
