Our last page: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/4189210-University-2020-2021-Part-11-Final-Furlong-For-First-year-Freshers-Then-Freedom-Follows?pg=8

As you can see from the last title, no longer freshers anymore. And now heading into second year, so this year it counts towards their grades, hence the 'hard work starts' and getting more and more smart as they go through their degree.... lol sorry I did try to be a be a bit witty with the title, but not as good as the last one, or the brilliant 'empty nests, warm vests and covid tests page' lol.

This thread is a follow on from our previous threads from when our dearest were freshers September 2020 to Summer of 2021.

Glad everyones is good :) just got back after a very long day of helping DD1 move in. Saw some students move in to the private halls but on higher floors. Love the room, its facing away from the main road and its got double glazing this time, so its much quieter. And on the landing, theres the smell of bread from the nearby Subway, she will need some restraint. We also ate at the Pendle Witch, which is super cheap. £8.99 for Gammon, egg, chips, peas and onion rings.
Shes gone to her friends house tonight for a get together. Tomorrow theres a get together that the private halls company is throwing so they get to know each other, and then Monday shes going to her partners house to watch the Queens funeral. Tuesdays a quiz night with the postdocs she met during the internship, so shes keeping busy before term starts in October.

DD has been at the new place for a couple of weeks now. Shes met up with her partner and her friends. One had a 21st birthday party and had a house party. People in her flat have been turning up over the time she was there.
First it was just her and 'vegan dude' she nicknamed them. Only knew someone was there by finding an empty vegan cake box in the kitchen. Then two guys show up at the same time, both second years a week later. Then start of freshers, theres been a couple of freshers move in. From what she knows they were clearing choice but couldnt get a place on main campus. Then on the same floor theres some studios and shes been speaking to them and they are 4th year/phd students. Shes liking it so far, and so happy shes got an ensuite for the first time. Shes also met up with some of the staff to go through some of the exams she was not happy with. With her being so close to a 2:2 she wants to start off with learning where she went wrong and how to put it right.

Hope everyone is ok and settling in into 3rd year :)

Speaking of that, any ideas for a new title? This one has second years in there, and they are third years now :)

Good to hear your dd is enjoying herself @sammyjoanne . We dropped ds back on Saturday, he was v nervous having been out of uni for 6 months. He's back on campus in a townhouse with third years (he's still a second year because of deferring) and so far really happy. He has lot more boys in his accommodation which he prefers and he has managed to transfer his job at aldi to the Lancaster one , so he'll do one shift a week there. Fingers crossed he'll be ok this year , seems good so far but lectures haven't started yet!

Glad hes enjoying his time there @specialted and im sure he will be fine this year😀. DD has had a lot of support this year as she struggled last year. Shes got quantum this year and last years quantum did not go as well as she hoped (she got only 45% on that module) so she's really worried it will pull her grade down to a 2:2 . She thought the exam went ok too, so shes panicking a bit as to what shes doing wrong. So when she got her 2nd year results she went to the department and they have set up regular meetings with her lecturers every 3 weeks instead once a term to check in and make sure shes ok with the teaching and understanding of it. They also said if theres anything she doesnt understand in the module to email the lecturer and she can knock on their door at an agreed time and go through anything she doesnt get as well. So they have been pretty good on the support. She said one of the things she regrets in second year is not asking someone if she didnt get it, so shes determined to get it right this year.
And thats really good news they swapped his shift to the Lancaster Aldi, thats really nice of them to do that. And its great hes back in the townhouse. Its just a really nice social space to live in 😁

Anyone whose DC is at lancaster theres a big parents group on facebook which seems prety active www.facebook.com/groups/565423604640153
DD2 went to Bangor on the 9th for open day. Was debating whether to go as it was prety iffy weather and she already got her top two, but glad she did as Bangor has given her food for thought and might even sneak into second place. DD1 is coming home for this weekend. Had planned to go up there to see her and go to the lakes, but weather does not look that great, so shes coming home Friday-Sunday. Hope everyones DC are ok :)

Since this thread is kind of redundant (no longer second years) ive created a new thread www.mumsnet.com/talk/higher_education/4658554-university-2020-entrants-parents-chat-third-years-final-frontiers-graduation-cheers-for-some .
