A (belated) happy new year! 🥳 Hope everyone is ok, I need to catch up.

bendmeoverbackwards · 07/01/2022 10:21

For those looking for hotel accommodation in Bristol - Mollie’s Motel is fantastic. But it’s a little way out of the city centre.

bendmeoverbackwards · 07/01/2022 10:24

Sorry to hear about your dd @Majaso12 hope she’s feeling a bit better now and able to do some work.

Majaso12 · 07/01/2022 12:54

@bendmeoverbackwards. Thanks. She just has runny nose and a cough now. Last night she was exercising in her bedroom! She hasn’t said she feels tired today yet. She’s working at the moment, hope she manages to get a lot done today. She’s going to do a lateral flow tomorrow which will be day 6 and see if she can come out of isolation after day 7. We’re still testing negative, even though I have symptoms. I’m doing a pcr today.

Longtimenewsee · 07/01/2022 13:36

@Majaso12…Hope your Dd can end isolation and get back to uni soon . Fingers crossed you remain negative

Majaso12 · 07/01/2022 15:23

@Longtimenewsee. Thanks. Taking her back will be difficult during the week, will have to take her later in the day, unpack and go straight back home I think. I don’t think she’ll want to wait until next weekend. Her exams start on the Monday, so she definitely wouldn’t want to go back just the day before.

Pumpkintopf · 08/01/2022 11:32

We're heading to London to drop DS and his friend who's been staying with us for a few days, back to uni. Lunch on us and a supermarket trip to stock him up a bit on the agenda I think! At least it's a slightly nicer day with a bit of shopping thrown in to soften the blow of leaving him 😢😁

AvocadoPlant · 08/01/2022 12:16

The weather is awful here, heavy rain and no sign of letting up. Glad you’ve got better weather in the east @Pumpkintopf, hope the drop off goes well.
We’ll be making the trip to Exeter tomorrow.

Majaso12 · 08/01/2022 13:04

I’ve got a faint line on lateral flow today. Cough started yesterday. I’ve had symptoms since Monday though, so not sure if I’m on day 5 now or at the beginning. Lateral flow was negative last night. No idea what’s going to happen about taking dd back to her uni. Her lateral flow was still positive this morning.

chopc · 08/01/2022 13:17

@Majaso12 have you had a PCR? I think you have it

OP posts:
chopc · 08/01/2022 13:18

Asymptomatic- LFT
Symptomatic- PCR

OP posts:
chopc · 08/01/2022 13:19

Aren't exams online as well @Majaso12 ? So no real pressing need for her to be back at Uni

OP posts:
Majaso12 · 08/01/2022 13:29

Had PCR yesterday. She’s desperate to get back to uni and settle in before she has exams, doesn’t want to do them here. Also we have new kitchen being installed, starting Monday 17th if that can go ahead now and it will be very noisy on the 17th when they’re ripping our kitchen out so don’t feel she can do the exams here! Wish I knew what day I’m on. Rang 119 and they said day 5 as symptoms started Monday but lateral flow has only just come up positive.

Vargas · 08/01/2022 13:58

Hello all and very belated Happy New Year. Sorry to hear about Covid spoiling various plans, both Christmas and back to Uni. My DS is planning to go back to Durham on Monday, he has said nothing about exams so I am assuming he doesn't have any....

He was out at a club and then night bus home last night, so I will definitely be getting him to do LFT before he heads back to Durham! At least he has had his booster...

Pumpkintopf · 08/01/2022 18:20

Thanks avocado it was a lovely day, bit of shopping and lunch at the Wembley outlets to soften the blow of dropping my boy back 😁

Majoso poor you, what a rubbish situation.

Pumpkintopf · 08/01/2022 18:21

Happy new year Vargas 😊

SeasonFinale · 10/01/2022 09:36

Dropped DS back at Bristol on Saturday and stayed overnight. He starts his exams this am. His room was a tip and I spent an hour and a half assisting and directing him in sorting it out. He says now it is tidy it will be easier to keep tidy. We will see. If it wasn't for exams this week I would have left him to wallow in it! However I think it being sorted will be better for him doing exams.

DH and I have booked a last minute holiday now that the requirement to test before leaving a country and returning home has been lifted so we are off to sunnier climes on Saturday.

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/01/2022 12:00

@SeasonFinale sounds familiar! Dd's room was also a tip when we collected her home before Christmas. She was a bit embarrassed about it but she has dyspraxia so struggles with organisation. I love a good tidy myself so I helped her tidy it up before leaving as it's horrible to return back to a messy room.

Dd went back to Bristol yesterday by coach. Her exams also start this morning, she said she wasn't very happy with one of the essay titles but they get a choice so she'll do one of the others.

This January exam thing is new to me! Seems to be very common with most subjects. In my day we only had exams in the summer which meant revising work done in the Autumn term. This is better I think, spreads it out.

Dd is coming home again on Friday for my big birthday on Saturday! Dh and I are going away overnight to a swanky hotel in town then we're having afternoon tea on the Sunday with the girls. It's been quite stressful as currently dd3 (autistic) hates her oldest sister to the extent that she won't be in the same room as her. I'm worried she won't come.

I also have a decision to make - the weekend after (22nd) I'm due to have a party to celebrate said birthday. I have checked with my guests and most say they are still happy to come. I've been thinking about postponing till March but a) who knows how much better things will be then, and b) it's a bit after the event. Me and dh keep changing our minds what to do. Such a difficult decision.

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/01/2022 12:00

Good luck to everyone's dc doing exams this week!

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/01/2022 12:03

@Majaso12 oh no, how stressful for your dd, I'm sorry to hear. When do her exams start?

Majaso12 · 10/01/2022 12:38

@bendmeoverbackwards. They start are the 17th. She had a negative result Saturday, but positive Sunday so she was very upset. I have covid now, confirmed by a PCR Friday. Lateral flow later on Friday was negative. Think I’m on day 7 because my symptoms started Monday, but I could be on day 5 or even 4. So fed up with it all! So much to do but I’m stuck in one room.

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/01/2022 12:42

Oh sorry to hear @Majaso12 the isolation rules are very confusing and I've heard of people still testing positive for ages. Hopefully your dd will be testing negative soon.

I heard talk in the news of stopping testing and reducing the isolation period which sounds promising.

chopc · 10/01/2022 12:53

@Majaso12 sorry about the Covid situation. One of my friends suggested I wash my nostrils with saline before doing LFT to get rid of dead cells. I had the same situ as your DD. I didn't have saline but did steam inhalation before I did the test. And it was negative (day 9 though). Doesn't make sense but I didn't care. I was asymptomatic throughout which was even more annoying

OP posts:
chopc · 10/01/2022 12:55

@bendmeoverbackwards happy birthday in advance! The party situ is tricky. We were having a New Year's Eve party and asked if people were still comfortable coming. I asked people to stay away if they have symptoms of anything and to do a lateral flow if no symptoms. About half dropped out for various reasons. As it happens because my PCR test came back positive we had to cancel the party anyway
