My DS for example - I told him to rest. So he wash they are going into Newcastle tomorrow so will stay at home tonight (!).

And he had to get off the phone as he is playing badminton (!!)

So what's rest? 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

@AvocadoPlant oh you must be worried. I know I was very worried when DD was moved into quarantine with Covid. I had visions of her passed out alone in a hotel room. She was fine.
I hope your DD makes a quick recovery.

Longtimenewsee · 08/10/2021 19:35

@AvocadoPlant I hope your Dd makes a swift recovery x

Stillcrikey · 08/10/2021 19:46

Oh @AvocadoPlant wishing her a speedy recovery.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 08/10/2021 19:56

@AvocadoPlant Your poor DD. Like you I would want to scoop up my teenager and bring her home. This parenting malarkey doesn't get any easier does it?

Majaso12 · 08/10/2021 20:16

@AvocadoPlant Hope your Dd makes a quick recovery.

raspberryrippleicecream · 08/10/2021 21:06

Avocado that's awful. Hope she is better soon.

Chopc my DS1 had a PCR, so did DD with her 4th year Fresher flu. As did I the same weekend, luckily all ok. We were intending to stay with DS2 at the beginning of my half term, but he is coming home for an orthodontist appointment. He has joined several music ensembles which continue rehearsing during reading week, so won't be coming home then. I'm just working out which concerts we can get too (basically Saturday/Sunday ones) and will visit him then.

Engley · 08/10/2021 21:08

Wishing your daughter a quick recovery @AvocadoPlant.
How many weeks left until Reading week? Not too long I think-so hopefully she can get some further rest then at home.Or beforehand...It’s so difficult to not be around when they are poorly.Big hugs to you both.

jano69 · 08/10/2021 21:17

Ahhh @AvocadoPlant that's awful - wishing her a speedy recovery. Such a worry for us parents miles away,...

Pumpkintopf · 08/10/2021 22:24

Oh @AvocadoPlant that is a worry. I know what you mean, I'd want mine home where I could make sure they were fed, rested and looked after.

DS still appears to be having the time of his life. Out every night, but with a few scrapes to show and sore ankles from clubbing (!!). He's signed up for loads of societies. He is not a rugby player but has signed up as they apparently (along with football that he does play) have the best socials. Now he is being asked to play. I definitely do not want him to do this as he has no clue and will end up battered. So far he has managed to avoid it!

First test today - pretty maths heavy apparently and he's v rusty having not cracked a textbook since May. Hopefully this will be a shot across the bows that he is there to work as well as party 😉.

AvocadoPlant · 08/10/2021 22:41

Oh you lovely nest of vipers, thank you all for the good wishes. I am incredibly concerned, and your nesssges of support have lifted me - and made me cry (but in a good way). Thank you xx

Re PCR tests, DD has to have both LFT and PCR each week to take part in one of her societies, all have come back negative.
As has the one she took yesterday before being allowed to see the GP today.

Reading week is the end of this month, and if I’ve managed to stop myself bringing her home before then I think I might insist she comes home for the full week then.

DH is remarkably calm, but is likely to collect her in a couple of days if she’s not sounding and feeling much better.

chopc · 08/10/2021 23:11

@AvocadoPlant I am sure she will make a speedy recovery. The young bounce back fast

Dd seems to be enjoying herself. Her flat mates don’t go out but she’s been messaging on group chats and been meeting up with others in her halls or halls close and also got to know some on her course. She met up with some tonight to go to the ball with as her flatmates weren’t going to that either. A couple of days ago a boy from North Acton messaged her to ask if he could stop at her flat while he waited to go on campus for something! She’s had her foot trodden on twice at a club. She’s only joined the biochemistry society, wanted to join a dance society as she has done ballet, tap etc for years but didn’t find one. She had a 2.5 hour session today and was given 60 maths questions to do after which took a bit of time. She said it might have been quite difficult for ones who hadn’t done maths A level which wasn’t needed for her course. She said a lot are starting to feel ill now, she feels ok at the moment.

She called me 11.45 pm tonight, which I assume was an accident and all I could hear was music blaring.

Pumpkintopf · 09/10/2021 01:09

Fab @Majaso12 . I hope your DD and my DS had a great time at the welcome ball. At least the weather has been decent for them!

Notagardener · 09/10/2021 02:40

So we all have Wattsap, and according to that dc1 was still "last seen 2.30am" and dc2 "last seen "1.30am".
What are they both doing at that time??? (I have a reason to be awake as I am on a night shift). DH says not to challenge/ask them as they might block me all together if they think I am spying on them.
Gosh and then you wonder why all these students are poorly......(no don't want to be a spoilsport Grin )

chopc · 09/10/2021 08:54

Hope they both had a good time @Pumpkintopf and @Majaso12

I am really admiring your daughter @Majaso12 . Not sure my son would have the courage to seek friendships the way your DD has

OP posts:
chopc · 09/10/2021 08:57

@Notagardener DS1 is still in our Life360 🙈. Has been getting in at all kinds of hours.

I asked if he changed his sheets and he said he did once as he had split blood on them - from a cut sustained when he fell over after having one too many. Apparently he has only been completely out of it once. I stressed the importance of being in a group and even I have the taxi numbers to have in case he needs rescuing.

Yes of course this is too much investment . But I don't care

DS was last seen on WhatsApp at 03.27!!!!!

Majaso12 · 09/10/2021 11:56

I can usually see Dd on snap chat map, but haven’t seen her on there since about 1 am which showed she was near Royal Albert Hall. Maybe she’s still in bed now.

She does seem to be going out of her way to make friends. She said at the club Monday night she was introducing herself to people. So then people were coming up to days later saying they remember her! She seems to be putting a lot of pressure on herself to get a group of girl friends like she had at school. She was worried she didn’t have one after just 2 days there, but then a couple of days ago said she’d messaged on the biochemistry group chat and now has been meeting up with girls from there now. She was determined before starting that if her flat mates didn’t go out, she’d make other friends she could go out with.

calculatorqueen · 09/10/2021 12:09

@AvocadoPlant hope your DD turns a corner today.

DS was last seen on Whats App at 04.06!! Not bad for someone who had never had a pint in a pub or been to a club before uni. I now keep checking the time to see if he is still alive and well.

Engley · 09/10/2021 12:14

My DS seems to be really enjoying student life in London. We live in the suburbs so he’s been out in London but not much.He loves the fact he’s usually with a group of 30 plus from halls clubbing etc.Hes very central and has everything at his doorstep .Hes bumped into a lot of his school friends who are at UCL ,Kings and Imperial. Its been a great social experience and he says most of his flat/hall mates are friendly and fun.
He’s now getting huge amounts of work-so he’s going out less in the week.Hopefully he will find a good balance between socializing,society/clubs and university work.Fingers crossed.

Engley · 09/10/2021 12:21

What’s app last seen 04.18.

Stillcrikey · 09/10/2021 12:26

WhatsApp last seen 04:38 🤣

calculatorqueen · 09/10/2021 13:44

It's brilliant that they're all out and about enjoying themselves, last year would have been a very different story.
