Proud auntie who would like to give something useful. I thought of extra long charging cable for his iPhone and maybe an extension cable and a coffee shop voucher. But open to anything more interesting? He’s in Loughborough off campus (Forest Court). Any suggestions very welcome. Thank you.

If he’s going to Loughborough, is he really sporty?

AmberRoseGold · 23/08/2021 11:33

Yes super sporty altho’ has an ACL injury and op which will scupper freshers week annoyingly (was meant to be earlier in summer but operation delayed because of surgeon having to Covid isolate).

When my DS went to uni he loved the Nandos voucher that a friend of mine gave him!

I have been proud Auntie x 3 and usually ask first. Two have requested lots of alcohol and one items for baking!

AmberRoseGold · 23/08/2021 18:35

Ooh Nando’s is a good shout. Don’t think he drinks that much but maybe I’ll chuck in a bottle of nice vodka and a multi pack of cola cans if my SiL approves. Can’t really ask as he is likely just to tell me not to give him anything (really lovely boy). Will Google to see if anything pops up as near Forest Court. Cannot believe I have such a grown up nephew! .

Loughborough is a great university- my DD went there - he'll have a fabulous time.

  • Alcohol will always go down well.
  • Things to share round when he gets to his accommodation to start conversations. Box of biscuits / Brownies etc ?
  • My DC most 'essential' but luxury item was a memory foam mattress topper. You need to know the size of his bed though. (Double beds will be usually given in the rented student houses from Year 2 onwards, so a bigger size is better)
  • There's a fab Chocolate cafe in Loughborough'Chocolate Alchemy' which has gift vouchers - then again it's a good place to meet if you visit - and you like chocolate !

Ooh maybe a really good memory foam pillow actually. Mattress topper good shout- might do for Xmas. Great idea about food to share. I remember someone having a massive tin of chocolate fingers in my freshers week. Right so: vodka & coke cans, big box of biscuits or crisps, extension cable, Nando’s voucher. And at some point descent upon him and kindly take him out to chocolate café in doting lardy aunt style. Thank you

If he is very sporty will he really want chocolate and Coke? Most serious athletes are on a very specific prescribed diet for their sport.

AmberRoseGold · 01/09/2021 13:04

He doesn’t eat chocolate but I do! Teen boy with hollow legs so lots of boiled eggs, chicken, protein shakes and veg but also a fair amount of SiL’s excellent baking. But always good to have something to hand out and often better if you don’t want to eat it all yourself.
I have also ordered him a door wedge (so can block his door open to let friends see he is in), a Bluetooth shower radio (massively reduced at typo) and a super long iPhone charging cable. Will sort Nandos voucher, buy a cheap tin of heroes from Xmas shelves which are already in my local Tesco and research a pillow for Xmas. Thanks for all these suggestions.
