SFE England loan payments and new student bank account...

Hi 👋
Hope everyone is calming down after last week!?
So ds1 has now been able to apply for a student bank account now he has been accepted onto his university course.
However, he is worried that SFE England will not pay his loan into the correct account...? 🙄
He is switching current accounts from a building society to HSBC and AFAIK if you switch accounts any payments will be paid into the new account directly?
I've told him he can update his SFE England account once he has his new account details...is it necessary?
Ds1 is quite anxious about this 🙄 but I'm only mum, what do I know?? 😀

He should be able to update his bank account once logged into student finance; and change it as often as he wants; although presumably once he has put this new account in that will be it for a while :)

Yeah that's what I thought
Thank you!
Kids, eh? 🙄😀

Just hopping onto this thread to say that I had always assumed that they needed a student bank account when they went to university, but it turns out that this is not strictly true - any bank account will do.
Obviously student accounts come with attractions such as free railcards and overdrafts however a friend of ours has actually encouraged her son NOT to convert his current account to a student one because she really doesn't want him to rely on the overdraft facility.
That's not the route we're taking (DS has changed his Santander) but it's something to consider.

My sons got a student account but chose not to have an over draft on it (so as not to have debt)

My older two haven't needed to us their overdrafts, but it was a safety net when the timing of rent/bills didn't match student finance loan payments.
