Anyone living in the Reading area, can you recommend the validity of UTC Reading and Highdown.

Hi! I just need some insight as my son is going to enroll into sixth form, he is choosing 4 a levels; math, further math, physics and chemistry. He is doing well in his studies.

For anyone who has enrolled their children into these schools, can you provide a background of it? Is the teaching good and the facilities?

I am doing this as UTC has a regard of being, you know, a little bit inadequate however, in the 2015 ofsted report, UTC Reading has been announced as "outstanding".
For highdown, there is not many reviews, besides the fact they have an oxbridge program.

Don't do it. Lord Baker periodical appears bigging these up and the government likes to visit they are the futurd/ they will invest in technical education in the UK.

No UTCs can recruit or retain qualified teachers. Behaviour is often poor and leadership woeful.

I have had many dealings with many UTCs. No exceptions that I have encountered.

I know a few people who have been to Reading- opinions are varied (and the negatives are v negative). That said some people rate it v highly.

Not quite last minute (but pretty nearly) and ds has finally firmed Bristol and insured Manchester- either would be a great fit for him so now just to keep everything crossed!

And in further excitement he was lucky to get vaccinated today as a local centre had some Pfizer jabs about to expire so he went down with his girlfriend and was jabbed!
