Student Loan if you decide not to go to university.

My DC has applied for student finance based on a course she has a place on. She has now decided she would like to do a different course at a different university. She is going to try to get this place through clearing. If she isn't successful she is going to apply for 2022 entry instead and take a year out.

One of her teacher's has said she may be charged interest on the student loan if it is paid to her this year. We would obviously let them know she won't be attending in September if she isn't successful.

Please could anyone advise.

Her teacher is wrong. As long as you cancel before enrolment there is nothing due. Loans are not paid over until after term starts.

Thank you that's great.

What a complete load of rubbish. If needs be she can defer her place and no student loan would be paid until a student is fully registered on a course and the Uni has confirmed her registration.
