English lit at Glasgow - any thoughts from people who have been there?

My dd is struggling with her uni decision. She’s choosing between Strathclyde and Glasgow. There’re obviously completely different universities and courses, but can anyone give any advice at to what they’re really like to do?

I can't advise specifically for English Lit - but Strathclyde has an excellent reputation for Engineering/Computing/Business type courses. For English Lit - I would choose Glasgow.

I did English Lit and History at Glasgow a very looooong time ago so not sure if my experience is at all relevant now. I look back with much fondness and was delighted that dd also went to Glasgow.

Are you local to Glasgow?

Strathclyde Uni is really on the up and climbing all league tables. Glasgow, however, has the more longstanding relationship with the Arts and Literature. Unless something particularly appeals about Strathclyde's course, go for Glasgow (and I say that as someone whose DF is a Strathclyde lecturer and Glasgowuniphobe).

I did English Lit at Glasgow in the olden days. My DS2 is at Strathclyde doing a Masters in Computing Science. I agree that it’s horses for courses so all things being equal I would say Glasgow for non tech subjects.

Thank you! Seems pretty unanimous!

Should say I was the first in my family to go to university and my df still thought of Strathclyde as a technical college. Several schoolfriends did go there to read languages and not only had a great time but have been successful afterwards.

I'd choose Glasgow - but I am biased. Hope your dd has a fab time whichever she chooses - Glasgow as a city is also fab.
