I was an assessor for someone who did NVQ in care. IIRC you have to describe what you did/would do

ie Aim was to assist Mrs X with her lunch. Mrs X was known to have swallowing problems and therefore was on a puree diet. I ensured she was sat in the correct position and I offered to wash her hands which she accepted etc etc

Maybe get a witness testimony to support it.

ok thanks, think once i'm writing it will be ok its just the almost simpleness of it that bothers me and writing it as you do it. If that makes sense.

Just give a clear written account of how you helped someone eat their meal.

ie

"I noticed mrs X was struggling to manage her meat with her knife and fork, so, having washed my hands, I discreetly pulled up a chair and quietly asked her if she would like me to help her. She agreed, so I used her own knife and fork to cut her meal into neat bite sized pieces, which she found much easier to manage."

be aware, some 'evidence' pieces actually require one of your colleagues to write it about you.

i just finished my svq level 3, i used to write down absolutely EVERYTHING first then sort it all out and remember to always put why you did something otherwise your assesor will ask you or you wont get a mark eg. xx was having his lunch alone in kitchen with support, xx has his lunch alone because it is his personal choice/a safer/calmer enviroment and its respecting his dignity not doing it in front of other people. then put in any risk assessments/guildlines that person has that relate to eating.

as colditz has said just write exactly what you'd do (and if you're usually a little "naughty" and not do it exactly to the book make sure you write what you should have done) (I had a lady at work who reluctantly let carers wash her bottom and genital areas with their clothes on, but point blank refused for the rest of her to be washed with them wearing the gloves.....but she was an "easy" one to write these evidence things on so everyone just used to say that they put gloves on straight away ))

It's quite hard to do the eating and drinking one because I work on a gynae ward so most patients are self caring, so i've had to choose one that was a surgical outlier who we had for weeks but I still haven't covered everything in my account statement.

I don't understand yet how else it works to get the units covered. Suppose I will find out more on the study day on Monday.

Mind you I don't know if i've written enough or gone into depth enough which is why I suppose they want a piece completed before the study day.
