Hello
My DD is trying to decide on Manchester vs Bristol Universities for a Drama degree. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thank you so much 🙏

Bristol seems to be Theatre and Performance BA and Manchester is Drama. Therefore I might look at differences between the courses and match them to career objectives. Bristol Theatre degrees are mostly joint honours so is this better than single honours Drama? I don’t know the answer but I do think employability afterwards is something to think about. Both cities have strong dramatic arts. In fact DD was at Bristol and sang with a university choir who were then asked if members wanted to sing with a professional production at the old Colston Hall over one Christmas. But it might come down to preferring one city over another! Manchester is rated more highly for this subject but quite honestly I think that makes little difference in the end. Which way is she leaning?

All your comments I entirely agree with. I think she’s leaning towards Manchester as the course higher rated and they can study film. That said she prefers the city of Bristol. It also comes down to extra curricular like singing/musical theatre. Thank you 🙏

Lots of choirs at Bristol but don’t know about usical theatre. Has she looked at drama schools?

Yes - she got far but not far enough! Think she’s keen on uni though.

Might be worth checking which course offers more performance opportunities. There's no point in studying a performing art and then spending three years in a classroom/studio and next to no time on stage.
