FFS

Anyone else having problems because they had a student loan 20+ years ago, pre emails and mobile phones, and married name.

So they say you already have an account, and to login into it with the email address you used to set it up?!

can't find any other way of dealing with it. Other then ringing them hitting lots of 123 options (non of them relating to my query) sitting on hold forever, then to fail the phone security because I you can't remember the post code of the residence that I was living when I applied.

So now will have to put a load of stuff in writing and send it to somewhere in Glasgow.

Anyway many frustrating hours later, and lots more phone calls. I've managed to sort it out.

Really though you'd think they would take into account that lots of people will have these accounts with no way of accessing them now. DH had the same problem, but managed to sort it out in a slightly shorter time. But still a total PITA.

You'd think they'd set up an option like...
had student loan before online applications? click here.

Hopefully it will improve over the next few years as I imagine this is going to become more of an issue as those who had loans previously are hitting the age where they now have kids going themselves. It probably hasn’t been a particularly big issue for that long!

But no, you are never BU to howl at the shiteness of Student Finance. I know years ago you used to be able to hit 0 to get through to a reasonably competent human being when the recorded messages first start. I had to keep doing that because I apparently kept getting my security code wrong - it was my DOB, I know my DOB!

Thankfully kids are now beyond this. It was infuriating dealing with the student loan company. I feel your pain!

Your DOB security question made my laugh. Grin

Fingers crossed they do update it. 🤞 there must be loads of us already struggling to sort it out.

Oh, God. I'm dreading it. Keep putting it off. I'm too old to have had a student loan, but there's an account knocking around for a DS who has long since graduated. Although at one point it insisted he was a girl a couple of years younger called Elizabeth, which was great fun to sort out.

If you fill in the paper form you can bypass all this hassle for now, but perhaps it's better to try and get it sorted as you have another 2 or more years of this ahead!

We ended up having to direct the person on the helpline to the relevant section on their own website when trying to get the right form to provide evidence for the previous year's "current year assessment", as they kept on telling us what we'd done wasn't possible and there wasn't such a form. Except there was, only we couldn't use it because it had the wrong year on it [sigh].

I'm going to have fun in another year where I will have supporting info for DD, as well as for me, I'm not putting much hope in the system dealing with that.

The website isn't as shit as it used to be though, in their defence.
