4 years since A Levels and the wait for August and confirmation of where our chicks were about to fly the nest to.
It's been 4 years that has sprung a few surprises along the way, not least this lovely series of threads.

What gorgeous weekend weather. DS has gone with a friend to the home of another friend at Mudeford beach, I’ve been out with friends having cocktails in the sunshine near home and DH has the weekend off and is watching tv - he seems to be switching from the football to the news and calling Boris names for breaching the Covid regulations at the ridiculous G7 beach BBQ!

Needmoresleep · 13/06/2021 17:42

Another sidetrack but we were on the beach today. Some serious tents there. One fell only slightly short of a marquee. They could probably have hosted a wedding in it, even in non COVID times.

Needmoresleep · 13/06/2021 17:45

Sorry completely wrong thread. It as meant for a thread about the constant need to spend…including on beach tents.

Sorry Blush

Not too far away from Parker, in my mums old flat. It is crazy busy, but glorious.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/06/2021 20:11

Grin I suppose a lot of people who'd normally be off to the Med or Algarve are investing in kit to make the humble british beach tolerable.Grin

Xenia · 14/06/2021 12:32

My daughter just got back on Friday from 4 nights in a lovely luxury yurt or tent thing with her husband including outside bath I think it was. She said it was really lovely. They were lucky with the weather, always the downside of UK holidays.

We still have our late July holiday abroad booked although it is looking more touch and go now as to whether it proceeds.....

I am not sure where I typed this "who had women up at 4pm !!!! " Should be "had woken up at 4pm". He ly had no woman in his bed.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/06/2021 14:32

I did think that was uncharacteristic over sharing of a DCs personal life!Grin

Xenia · 14/06/2021 17:23

Yes it would have been. He slept for nearly 12 hours apparently (alone).

Malbecfan · 15/06/2021 15:44

Lovely weather here in the SW of England again. DD2 is back installed flogging ice cream by the beach. As she walked the 3 miles there, I said I'd collect her later.

DD1 received her exam results today. She managed a First to go with the ones she received in her Parts 1 & II. I'm not sure of the exact terminology, but she will be able to add MSci after her name once she has graduated. DH and I are really proud of her.

Carriemac · 15/06/2021 15:45

@Malbecfan well done your DD ! How well our fledglings have done despite everything

latedecember1963 · 15/06/2021 18:40

Congratulations to your daughter, Malbecfan! 🎉🥂

Congratulations Malbecfan dd ! Here dd has been told degree is a 2:1 which she is very pleased about but actual exam results not out till later this week.

Much relief all round but sad graduation is cancelled - however we will do photos and a nice meal on what should have been the day.

Then will be on to postgrad ! Seems like only yesterday we were agonising over Advanced Higher results and crossing fingers that all went well - how time flies.
Good luck to all on the next steps.

Xenia · 16/06/2021 14:47

Congrats on the MSc first (and the reads daughter 2:1).
My twins' law conversion course results are out tomorrow. Both are away so I hope they let me know - one is only away on a short break as is in his new paralegal job which seems to be going fine. He is back at it on Friday in fact as 2 colleagues are then on holidays he is almost in a sense in charge for a day as the only one physically there but I am sure he can cope and ask other people in the firm any questions if there is anything difficult.

Sorry about the cancelled graduation. The com, pany we are going on holiday with has changed when it restarts holidays from 8 July to 22 July (so in theory we may still go) but that was already moved from June so it really is touch and go and just as importantly they will take no one to a place not " Green" so unless our country goes green by then we will not be able to go. We all would just like to know for definite however, so the uncertainty is annoying and I certainly will not book again as life is too complicated not to know. I have been saying we are likely to know by early July (go end of July) because the company will have to fly staff out, get the resorts ready and they cannot do that on a week's notice - they need time.

Malbecfan · 16/06/2021 18:04

Congratulations @readsalotgirl63 and good luck @Xenia for your DSs.

The graduation will apparently happen in person. The decision on parents in the college garden has not been confirmed...

latedecember1963 · 16/06/2021 21:27

Congratulations to your DD, Readsalotgirl. 🎉🍾
Fingers crossed for your lads tomorrow, Xenia.
DS2 has been to Loughborough Uni this afternoon to play in an ultimate frisbee match. When he messaged he said how much everyone enjoyed being able to take part in a normal match.
His 1st vaccine is tomorrow.

Congratulations on the results. DD has just been told her July graduation (delayed from last year) is cancelled :(

Xenia · 17/06/2021 14:21

Thanks. Apparently the results are out at 4.30pm so one son will be checking them tonight. I don't know how I managed to produce such laid back children....... at least they never seem to be stressed. I would be counting down the minutes until 4.30pm.

Sorry the SMaCM graduation is cancelled. It is the uncertainty of things that is so annoying under the CV19 legislation. We still don't know if our July holiday will be cancelled.

ClerkMaxwell · 17/06/2021 15:04

I sympathise with you Xenia. DS2 also v. laid back. His results were out Tuesday and he came home from work in a bad mood. I thought he must have done badly so started giving the mum talk about it not being end of the world. Turns out foul mood due to Scotland's football performance and he had a comfortable 2:1. Hadn't thought to mention it.

Good luck to everyone still waiting

latedecember1963 · 17/06/2021 16:50

Oh no SMaCM, your daughter has had such a rubbish experience, hasn't she!
Well done to your son, ClerkMaxwell. 🍾That's just the sort of thing we used to have with DS1!

One twin has checked but took him 15 mins to be able to log in as obviously everyone was logging in at 4.30pm! He did fine - between 60 and 70% so a merit over all if we added it up correctly. Pass is 50 - 59 and distinction 70+. He got merit in the final exams in term 1 too so it was as expected. Our main relief is no resits over the summer. His twin is checking tonight. He gets to see everyone's marks but anonymously and a few had the occasional 90% and others not at all good so the usual mixed picture.

They had called the landlord about a power cut but it went back on again and in passing the landlord said he had found new tenants from 1 July so they have to break it to him their tenancy ends on 10 July when they move out - land lord had not bothered to check the contract - how weird. Just as well they spoke to the landlord that day.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/06/2021 18:59

DD had an email from her college - the actual graduation is going ahead but the event for guests in the college garden isn't (other colleges may be going ahead, i guess it depends on space:numbers). There were lots of alternative possible dates (i think assessing interest rather than anything definitely planned) but I think she will want to graduate at the start of July if that's what her friends are doing. So it looks like if we go it will just be seeing them walk by and then a picnic later on in the day. So whether we go may depend on the weather. We should be able to go to the 'fake MA Cantab' graduation 3 years hence I suppose.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/06/2021 19:23

More positively, she and her BF have started house hunting. Rents seem pretty high but not so bad split between the two.

Her BF phoned the agent... got to discussing their upcoming jobs...it went something like this:
"We're both engineers"
"And what does your girlfriend do?"
"We're both engineers"
"Yes but your girlfriend...."
"She is also an engineer"
"Oh that's nice"

Xenia · 17/06/2021 19:38

Good luck with the flat hunting.
My Bristol son said the nearest vaccination hub for Bristol is either Bath or Weston super Mmare and yet when he checked near us in London there are loads of places you can go. Without a car those are quite come journeys. Surely Bristol, is a big enough city to have its own hub. He might wait until back in London now in that case.

Parker231 · 17/06/2021 19:56

The vaccination appointments available online are filling up in some areas as soon as they are released. DS had to try repeatedly to find a free slot. At the GP surgery where DH works they have taken on another four receptionists to contact those in groups 1-9 who haven’t booked their appointment yet.

If this news article is true the vaccination centres are going to get even busier with so many people wanting to travel but can’t spend time isolating on return. We’re desperate to go to Belgium to see DD and my parents but DH can’t practically do an isolation period.

SMaCM · 17/06/2021 20:12

ClerkMaxwell that made me laugh. They forget that we are waiting for information too don't they.

Errol - They're both engineers - that's too hard to understand.

Parker - DD has had both her vaccinations, but is pleased that her friends are all getting booked in now. Sadly it probably won't make any difference for their Ibiza holiday in July which will almost certainly be cancelled now.

MarchingFrogs · 17/06/2021 20:38

Xenia, DS1 also mentioned the only available vaccination centre being in Bath when he looked (didn't mention Weston-sur-Mudflat, though) - whatever happened to Ashton Gate?
