Worried about my son. Does anyone know if it's possible to change university at this time of year?

My DS1 started Uni last year. Things went great until Xmas then everything fell to bits. By the time we found out, his only option was to come home and start afresh this year, which he did.

Spoken to him this week and he says he's bored. He's doing the same work as he did this time last year so it's not surprising, but he also says he wonders if he's done the right thing. I'm sure they gave him the option of changing course but it's a very academic uni so I don't think that would have helped.

When he applied he was offered a place nearer home on a course that was more what he was looking for but didn't lead to as high a qualification. Does anyone know if it's at all possible (assuming they've got a place of course) to actually change uni mid year?

It is sometimes. He would need to speak to the University he wants to change to and ask them about it.

There are no fixed rules about uni transfers, it will simply depend on whether the course he wants to do has places available that they want to fill. Although it is getting rather late in the term and they may also be worried about him catching up the work that he has missed. I suggest that he emails or phones the admissions tutor for the course that he wants to do asap. Number should be on their website.

I reckon they'd probably let him join the course next September as he's already missed most of a semester. Why doesn't he get a part time job in the meantime to save some money up to fund his studies then start fresh after the summer?
