Hi bend. So sorry you’re still waiting. No news from LSE yesterday either, though some offers were coming in for Finance-type courses, by the look of it. I don’t think DS will be looking at the Durham open day today as he has two exams on Monday so is revising. I’m not sure he even knows about it, tbh. Don’t worry, as these things are mostly just general info you can see on the website anyway,

quest1on · 20/03/2021 11:53

Vargas - how funny, My Year 8 one also announced she would like to do Classics at uni Confused The other one just said she wants to make TikToks ad a career Grin

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/03/2021 12:35

My year 9 dd doesn’t know what she wants to do but she has been asking lately what job pays the most for the minimum amount of work Grin

I do worry about her - she’s also bright but has zero interest in schoolwork, she just find any subject interesting. Her interests are clothes, make up, tiktok and dance. Sigh. Suppose that’s quite common in teenage girls. I’m hoping with different teachers in year 10 and maturity might bring about some change.

Hi all,

Just checking in for the first time in aaaaages. Goodness, what a blimmin slog of a wait some of you are having to go through. My heart really goes out to you.

DS is doing OK. He has 2 more rounds of exams left (end March and mid May) but we still don't have any clarity on HOW the grades will be decided. We have had very pointed letters from school about potential malpractice if any student or parent tries to talk to teacher's about grading.

No Cambridge feedback yet. Not entirely sure if DS even asked for it, he seemed to think his college sent to school automatically.

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/03/2021 12:59

Hi @Tenpastseven nice to hear from you and glad your ds is ok. Has he firmed up an offer yet or is he still waiting?

BigWoollyJumpers · 20/03/2021 13:01

In other news, just had my jab this morning - yay!

DD1 made us scrambled eggs on toast for lunch, and DD2 is busily hoovering and dusting upstairs for me. I am hamming up the side effects (none so far Grin). They all keep checking on me, so I am going to "rest" all afternoon.

Exeter finally sent a "welcome to Exeter" email to DD2. The email was very positive, lots of assurance about making sure they can settle in well this year despite everything etc etc. She feels a lot more calm now. She is now "officially" an Exeter 2021 Fresher Grin.

Longtimenewsee · 20/03/2021 13:11

Hurrah @BWJ! Every jab I hear of is a little bit of good news. I had mine a few weeks back (due to job) ..I hope you escape any side effects. Let’s hope the young ones can get theirs before they go to uni.
Good news about your Dd firming up too. It’s bound to feel good to be looking forward Smile

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/03/2021 13:18

Great news on both the vaccine and Exeter @BigWoollyJumpers Has she chosen her accommodation yet?

Hope you don’t have any side effects. I had mine a few weeks ago and felt a bit rough for 36 hours, not too bad though.

chopc · 20/03/2021 13:32

@bendmeoverbackwards I think the Durham open day is recorded so your DD should still be able to access it at a later date. She may miss the live chats with other people on her course however there are various group chats if you look on the Durham offer holders Facebook page.

My DS was never into the group chats or zoom or anything but this has really opened up his social network which I am happy about as he hasn't really had the opportunity to establish friendships as we have been in lockdown most of the time we have been back in UK

Even in the first round there were people who missed out on the first choice and I am sure your DD will be happy with her allocated college as this seems to be what current Durham parents says . My DS would have been happy at any one of about 7 or 8 colleges as they all had their own perks

Does your DD really want Durham or is it because that's the one she hasn't yet got it has built into being more of a choice than what it was?

Vargas · 20/03/2021 13:38

DH getting jab today, hurrah, and planning a rest day tomorrow just in case.

I didn't know about the Durham offer day today and ds hasn't mentioned it Confused. Typical .

My Y8 dd is similarly obsessed with clothes and skin care/makeup and some young actor I've never heard of...sounds just like me at the same age. Thankfully no boyfriends or vodka yet!

Wishing all those still waiting to hear from Unis the very best of luck and patience. Hopefully it will all come good for you all very soon...

MidLifeCrisis007 · 20/03/2021 15:00

Fanfare......

Drumroll......

DS1 Has a Durham offer! (History & MFL).

At long bloody last!

goodbyestranger · 20/03/2021 15:02

Well done him. What a relief. Is the college ok for him too?

SATSmadness · 20/03/2021 15:07

@MidLifeCrisis2007

What a relief ! Especially well done to you and him for going through this process twice !

MidLifeCrisis007 · 20/03/2021 15:18

@goodbyestranger

Well done him. What a relief. Is the college ok for him too?
I don't think he'd tempted fate by ranking his colleges yet! He's abroad at the moment so I'm really not sure where's he's at in terms of college preferences.

I SOOOOOO hope @bendmeoverbackwards' DD gets an offer too, and any others waiting.

Jalfrezi · 20/03/2021 15:35

Fantastic news @MidLifeCrisis007 and what a relief. Thrilled for him. Did the offer come on a Saturday then? So hope @bendmeoverbackwards DD gets good news soon and any others waiting.

quest1on · 20/03/2021 15:39

So happy for you and your DS Midlife! About time too. Did he get it today or yesterday? Maybe it takes longer with combined offers as it has to be checked by two departments? God only knows what they’re doing. Great news anyway!

Fingers crossed for you now bend. Don’t worry, I’m waiting with you (except not on Durham). Lots if people are still waiting for UCL, Imperial, St As, all sorts - don’t lose hope!

I think what happens in this process is you get wound up with the waiting (for weeks / six months), but this can only go on for so long realistically, so then you find yourself at the point where you realise you’re past caring...

Longtimenewsee · 20/03/2021 16:00

Chuffed to bits for you and your ds @MidLifeCrisis007!

ChimneyPot · 20/03/2021 17:24

Delighted for your DS @MidLifeCrisis007

SeasonFinale · 20/03/2021 17:31

Great news Midlife I did wonder about you when our MEL with history came through yesterday but I also knew DS wasn't up to be hassled.

And breathe!!

chopc · 20/03/2021 17:46

Amazing news @MidLifeCrisis007 ! You knew he would get an offer so well done for keeping the faith
After all this, will Durham be his first choice over St Andrews should he get an offer?

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/03/2021 18:16

@MidLifeCrisis007

Fanfare......

Drumroll......

DS1 Has a Durham offer! (History & MFL).

At long bloody last!

Been out all afternoon and just seen this!

Soooo happy for your and your ds @MidLifeCrisis007 so very well deserved. You must all be over the moon. I hope you have a lovely evening celebrating tonight Smile

MidLifeCrisis007 · 20/03/2021 18:29

I feel a bit teary reading all your lovely congratulatory messages.

Thank you ladies. Flowers

I expect DS will be downing a few beers tonight.... meanwhile I've just had my first Covid vaccine so will probably be going to bed early with a good book and a pack of paracetamol!

PS No idea about St Andrews @chopc.... he'll cross that bridge if he's lucky enough to get an offer. (He does like a round of golf or 10.... but the rowing won't be as good there as it is at Durham).

jano69 · 20/03/2021 18:41

Just been out for a long walk and come back to the fantastic news that @MidLifeCrisis007's ds has a Durham offer - bloody Fandabidozi!!!!

So happy.... 😃 🎉 🥂

Another one for bend's dd too please!

I had my jab last Tuesday - got the shivers, chills, upset tummy and headache but right as rain 48 hours later.

Have a good evening all.

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2021 18:57

@MidLifeCrisis007 I had a sore arm and husband achy legs. And that was it. Hope you have an easy ride too. And huge congratulations 🍻

Chilldonaldchill · 20/03/2021 18:59

Congratulations to your ds @MidLifeCrisis007 !
That's such good news. Hoping for similar positive news for @bendmeoverbackwards dd very soon.
(I've had both vaccines - lucky enough to be one of the first due to work and had it when it was still 3 weeks apart. Felt fine after the first; had high fever and headaches for 24 hours after the second which I was rather grateful for - nice to know it's doing something Smile.)
