Correlation between struggling unis and no accommodation refund?

Do you think this might be the case?

That those 'twenty or so' institutions hinted at, but not named as being in deep financial trouble about a year ago are the same ones as yet refusing to consider rent refunds for students in their Halls?

🤔

Sounds likely as the ones I have heard that are letting students off some or all of hall costs when not allowed in the halls are places like Bristol where my twins and daughter were which tend to be reasonably financially stable.

That's interesting. I was chatting to a friend online yesterday who was complaining that her niece's uni was giving no refunds for accommodation. Not sure where she is, but DS2 has been offered 100% refund for weeks he's not there and DS1 has been offered a big discount.

I'm suspicious that my DS's is in trouble thus needs every Penny....

My uni is one of the ex polys who advertise and recruit students quite aggressively - but they've done a halls refund.

The trouble is that only a few of the halls that the students are placed into are uni-owned - and all they can do is to send some sternly worded letters to the private halls providers asking them to consider doing the same... and the private providers are generally saying "sod off"

Led to a real division among students before the summer break and the same is happening now - and I really feel for those who just happened to end up in non-uni owned halls by the virtue of accommodation allocation.

Not necessarily. I know of one university that days after announcing their accommodation refunds also announced course closures and likely compulsory redundancies which they attributed to financial losses due to Covid.
