We have a 4ft bed (120cm) in DS1's room and have no trouble getting bedding for it. John Lewis and ?Ponder Home, amongst other suppliers, do 'small double' fitted sheets. A lot of newer university accommodation (especially the private halls) has 3/4 beds, which has no doubt made the sheets easier to find, although our 4ft bed is about 110 years old.

Definitely have them at JL. DS’s Uni bed was a small double and JL always seemed to have the right size in stock.

MarchingFrogs · 31/05/2021 16:31

I don't think I've actually seen a 'small double duvet, though (althpugh apparently they exist, if JL sells covers for them). We just use a normal double duvet.

(I assumed that the 'small double set would include a 4ft sheet, not a specific, different, size of duvet cover!).

Shimy · 31/05/2021 19:44

DS has a small double but I never bothered with a small double duvet. Aside from the the fitted sheet, I’ve got everything in a standard double size so standard double duvet, standard double duvet set, a couple of double size flat sheets(any excess which of course can be tucked neatly under the mattress) this avoids that annoying sheet sliding off effect.

MrKlaw · 31/05/2021 19:50

good point about just reusing the double duvet and covers he has, and getting a small double fitted sheet - thanks. Now to try and balance the lack of interest in what it looks like from him and my wife’s instinct to cram it full of storage underneath!

Zandathepanda · 01/06/2021 00:01

Look up a small double ottoman. Fantastic storage. Just be careful to check for pet cats before you close them!

bigTillyMint · 01/06/2021 15:18

@MrKlaw, both mine have small doubles at home and have had them at uni. Seem to fit 2 fine WinkGrinI agree with @Zandathepanda re bedding. Mine are also quite happy with normal double fitted sheets just tucked in a bit more!

bigTillyMint · 01/06/2021 15:19

We have boxes (with lids) under the beds Smile

Zandathepanda · 01/06/2021 16:42

MrKlaw yes 2 fit in there fine - just a little bit closer Grin

Has anyone’s DC been vaccinated yet? Poor Dd has now processed nearly 4000 people at a vaccination centre and its always been AZ at the end of her shift so not allowed. She was hoping it may be a perk of volunteering as she has a vulnerable little sister so she gets paranoid coming home.

Zandathepanda · 01/06/2021 19:06

She is really enjoying the volunteering in its own right btw. The community spirit is great and it’s nice mixing with locals. Except when she has to turn people away as they haven’t got an appointment. But she’s grown more resilient over that and most people are ok.

RampantIvy · 01/06/2021 20:42

Has your DD finished her exams @Zandathepanda? DD doesn't finish until 7th June.

Parker231 · 01/06/2021 20:53

@Zandathepanda - I’m a volunteer vaccinator - it’s a great atmosphere at the centres - very positive. I’m giving second vaccinations of the AZ.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 01/06/2021 21:28

My teens have all had both their vaccines as we're in the US. DD was delighted to go to work without a mask the other day. She said she finally knows what her colleagues look like.

A friend is volunteering in the vaccination clinics and also said how lovely it is to be there. I know we all were so grateful to all the people running them, and so happy to be getting our ticket back to a normal life and safety.

Cookerhood · 01/06/2021 21:36

Same here parker231

chocolatenutcase · 01/06/2021 22:13

@Zandathepanda my DD has been vaccinated with the AZ vaccine. Her younger sister works at a vaccination centre and there were spare vaccines left over so she phoned up her sister to come and get one. 5 days later they changed the age for receiving AZ vaccine! I have to say I'm a bit nervous about her having her second dose but there's no reason to suggest she will have any problems. Apparently it's getting hard to get younger people to be vaccinated so I expect the younger people will be eligible very soon

chocolatenutcase · 01/06/2021 22:15

I loved doing a volunteer shift in the vaccination centre where DD2 works. She was my administrator for me while I vaccinated. It was such a good time together :-)

Zandathepanda · 01/06/2021 23:57

Ahh lovely stories - well done to all the vaccinator volunteers! We got jabbed with Dds sister in hospital as she’s 16 and CV.

RampantIvy Dd hasn’t had any exams but is knee deep in essays. The deadlines are in the next week. She did her last volunteer shift a few days ago and it’s doing another until after all the essays are done.

bengalcat · 02/06/2021 09:38

Looking forward to the young being offered Covid vacc

Xenia · 02/06/2021 14:05

My son (22, no health issues) has been called today for his vaccination tomorrow (outer London borough) but not his twin who is studying in Bristol.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/06/2021 14:27

I have told DS to look out for an 'open call' to be vaccinated in Norwich.

How is your DD2 getting on @Zandathepanda? I notice you mention her being in hospital? It must be really hard for her.

OP posts:
RampantIvy · 02/06/2021 15:06

Sorry to see that your DD2 is in hospital @Zandathepanda Flowers

Shimy · 02/06/2021 15:27

DS1 got vaccinated last week but he's up in Cardiff where 18yr olds have been called up. Hope everyone gets their vaccines soon.

Parker231 · 02/06/2021 15:46

DS (21 years) hasn’t heard anything yet but hopefully very soon. DD is in Brussels where they are further behind with rolling out the vaccinations but thankfully my parents who live on the Belgium coast have had both vaccinations now.
