Do any of the top unis for Psychology ask for AAB rather than AAA?

All seem to state AAA and it would be good to have a fallback uni.

Any ideas??

Quite a few ask for AAB - but they're often the ones that require two science subjects too. Manchester, Birmingham, Lancaster ... What A levels are we talking about?

honkytonkheroe · 22/08/2020 20:24

My daughter had an AAB offer from Birmingham and got AAB but the 2 As were sciences. Looking the other day I'm sure I saw Nottingham were as well as Warwick. She also had an AAB offer from Birmingham, ABB from Southampton (contextual) and Exeter AAB if firmed. Also Bristol was AAB (contextual). Loughborough I think was also AAB.

Sostenueto · 23/08/2020 08:21

Kings College London do but you do need sciences too mainly the A having to be one of the sciences.

MarchingFrogs · 23/08/2020 08:43

Sussex is AAB - ABB (non-contextual) typical offer. I don't know how their department ranks for Psychology in any relevant league tables, but the course is BPS accredited and - at the moment, at least - offers a wide range of options.

Bristol has 40% schools on their contextual offers list. They offer AAB offers if your school is on that list.

Fifthtimelucky · 23/08/2020 22:54

When my daughter applied (she's about to go into her 3rd year) her offers were AAA from Birmingham, Leeds and Exeter, and AAB from Nottingham and Southampton.

Exeter then reduced her offer to AAB if she firmed it, which she did. That was great, but it did mean that her insurance (Nottingham) wasn't really an insurance!

Fifthtimelucky · 23/08/2020 22:56

Should have said that my daughter didn't have two science subjects at A level.

caringcarer · 23/08/2020 23:15

Don't know what they are asking but Reading ranks quite high for Psychology.

Sostenueto · 24/08/2020 11:49

Dgd had contextual for neuroscience with psychology from Kings College London which is in top 5 in country for psychology of ABC and from Bristol for Mac in neuroscience and psychology of ABB. She got AA,B with the moderated grades and A AA CAGS so made both her firm ( Kings) and insurance( Bristol) with moderated. These were the only two unis that made her a contextual offer. Her other unis didn't Manchester ( AAA) Nottingham (AAB)

Sostenueto · 24/08/2020 11:51

Dgd had Alevels in Maths Biology and Psychology.

Sostenueto · 24/08/2020 11:56

Manchester offered her a place on day of interview but refused to drop the grades because her predicted grades were high. It was for a Msc though.

That should be second for KCL not 5th.

lifeafter50 · 24/08/2020 13:52

One of my tutor group this year had offer AAB for Psychology at Liverpool.

loveyouradvice · 24/08/2020 15:33

Really encouraging - thanks! She has two sciences which are likely to be AA - aiming for A* in one ...

Good luck!

cryinglightning · 26/08/2020 19:55

Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Southampton are all AAB. Liverpool is ABB .

mimbleandlittlemy · 27/08/2020 13:39

Warwick is AAB - I know a friend's daughter had it as her Insurance, though ended up getting the grades for Durham.

mushroom3 · 27/08/2020 15:49

Newcastle is AAB-ABB

ccrc28 · 28/08/2020 09:05

Liverpool drop to BBB if you have a science.

penelopeplums · 29/08/2020 15:24

Bristol ask AAB as a contextual and count Psychology as a science but it's not a requirement. A*AA is their standard requirement for Psychology.

MrsEricBana · 02/09/2020 23:30

Ds friend was offered AAB by Exeter and ABB by Sussex and Liverpool.

babygrootandstarlord · 02/09/2020 23:42

Pretty sure Kent is AAB and they are usually ranked fairly high in Psychology. And have a strong rep on psychology research/studies.
