Can we have a thread about offers from firm/ insurance choice universities for those whose DC were rejected on 13th but now qualify for an offer?

DS is waiting to hear from Durham. With his CAGs, he now meets his offer which he firmed in March. He knows he will get a new offer for either 2020 or 2021 but if its 2021, then he will take up his insurance place because he doesn't want to defer.

In that sense, he is one of the lucky ones because he at least got enough on the 13th for his insurance offer.

He is waiting and checking every day. It would be good to know when things start to move as Durham are very tight-lipped about likely timescales, although they have sent out a form to ask who would like to defer?

What are other universities doing? Has anyone had an offer yet?

@Serin I see on another thread that your DC is in the same position but has now had an offer?

Looks like Lancaster started sending our offers yesterday

My dd originally missed out on Exeter but was accepted by her insurance. She received an email yesterday telling her they would be accepting her & what she now needs to do. She is worried about how far out her accommodation will be.

I external examine at Exeter, and I hear from colleagues there that they're booking hundreds of rooms in the city centre to ensure they can accommodate both those who came via Clearing and those who had offers but got caught by the Government's SNAFU. I gather Exeter is aiming to honour as many offers as they can.

Edinburgh have asked people to let them know and you’ll hear before 7th

Quair · 23/08/2020 21:10

Durham told someone on TSR that 7th September was the target too. It is a long time to wait and won't leave much time before DS is due to start at his insurance.
His insurance have been a lifesaver in all this. Without knowing that Ds will have somewhere reasonable to go, it would be so much worse. It is not fair on them that DS (and others like him) are unable to give certainty.

And what about the student who will take DS's place if he does get a Duham offer?

Hi Quair, I'm on holiday with patchy wifi, apologies for late reply and hope your DS has heard something now.
What dept is your son hoping to study in? DS was computer science. He rang them as soon as he heard his grades had been improved and was told that whilst they would be making him a new offer it wouldnt be st St Mary's. We assumed he would probably be offerred a place at the new build.
He decided he would stick with York (who had been most supportive) then in a further twist he was blindsided by the offer of a degree apprenticeship and he has taken that instead.
To say it's been a stressful few weeks is an understatement. I really hope that your son gets the offer he wants soon. Flowers
