DS applying for SFE for Masters; why do they need birth certificate posting again

DS has done just finished an undergraduate degree course and has now applied for a Masters. Do SFE really need his birth certificate again when he already has an account created in the last few years? Has anyone any experience of having to do this or know any different?

I am very unhappy if this is the case as every time we send such documents to SFE (just done DDs application too) we supply an SAE which is hardbacked for the certificate to keep from spoiling, only for SFE to completely ingore this, fold the certificate up and place in a non hard back envelope..end result cert is crumpled Angry.

I applied in June for the master's loan and didn't have to send a birth certificate. I applied for UG loan 15 years ago.

Don't think mine did even for UG. Just used passport number.

Ditto. The request for a copy of a birth certificate is such a heart-stopping moment, that I think I would remember it. And yes, we do have a place where the DC's birth certificates should be. And I even remember that an envelope marked X's birth certificate actually contains Y's. Just can't remember which way round, DC wise, just that DS2 is not involved.

Thank you for your replies. He doesn't have a current valid passport just one from when he was much younger. It looks like another phonecall to SFE..another half hour of my life I won 't get back....Wink

Errr why half an hour of YOUR life? Confused He's the applicant, they won't talk to you...

Are they asking for the birth certificate because he doesn’t have a valid passport? A valid passport opens the door to all sorts of things you would otherwise need to Showa a birth certificate for.
