Anyone waiting for AS Level results tomorrow?

I know not many schools do them now, but DD's does and she's anxious as these will be the predicted grades used for her uni application next year.

What are you expecting?

Yes. Art, Eng.Lit., Maths and Physics. DS2, not me, that is. The last is the one he intends to drop, so is not - too - bothered by what he gets in that. He thinks he should do well enough in the others to be predicted BAA, respectively, come the autumn.

I am just waiting for Eng.Lit. to be a thing of the past, because the books he keeps insisting on sharing with us are truly direShock.

Yes, DS1 is waiting for AS results in English, Chemistry, Maths and History. He had a shocker in his mocks because of a mental health crisis, so he isn't expecting much. He's in bits about it already, he could realistically get As in the final A Levels if he works hard (8s and 9s at GCSE) but is sure his university applications are going to be ruined by tomorrow's results. The college teachers can only go on the mock results and they really hadn't known the students long before Covid hit. Today he's talking about taking a gap year so he can apply with his actual results, but this worries me....his MH is precarious, he has ASD and needs structure and social routines etc. It's a nightmare.

yes, DD1 expecting AS results tomorrow for Eng. Lit. Politics, R.E. and History. No results expected for Welsh Bac though which she has to do as well. She's been very emotional tbh. Predictions in her last report were AAAA but she's so worried about the impact on uni applications.Sad

Well, good luck all!

I know this years students face a great deal of uncertainly, but next years exams/uni places are by no means a clear either - and we've got a much longer road...

Hope to see you on the other side, semi sane and still in one piece Thanks

Good luck all. DS2 is waiting for Further Maths AS. This is the first year his school didn't do AS, except for FM. Not entirely sure if he will get his result tomorrow as the handful of Y12s involved haven't been included in the correspondence. Having seen the Y13 email, DS2 emailed school to ask to have his result sent, but no confirmation.

If it doesn't come we might leave it til the afternoon, they'll be busy!!! It matters to DS2 as he needs an A* prediction, he has all his other predictions. But from reading between the lines of his report I think he will get his prediction regardless.

His school have already confirmed sixth form places based on their judgement rather than waiting for GCSE results

Just got dd's results - BBBB. She's devastated as she was predicted all As and feels (and I suspect she might be right) that this will prevent her from applying to her unis of choice. All of her classmates got lower than what they expected, except one who was predicted a C in physics and got an A!

SausageCrush · 13/08/2020 09:33

We're pretty disappointed too!
Dd got BBD (and ABC in her mocks)
This probably means a complete re-think about uni choices Confused

I have every sympathy with you both as in Scotland last week dd received good results but not what dd expected, her predicted grades were higher in4 subjects, thankfully the Scottish Government have made the right decision,

Our first port of call was an email to the school and the head teacher phoned us back on results day.

Don’t make any rash decisions about uni until you have spoken to your child’s head of year or guidance teacher who can tell you the options .

Eastisup · 13/08/2020 09:49

So sorry for anyone who's disappointed with results, the system is so flawed and its been awful watching the news this morning. Good luck for anyone still waiting and for those with downgraded results, get onto school and appeal asap. We've been fortunate this morning but a couple of dd's friends are unhappy.

raspberryrippleicecream · 13/08/2020 10:03

DS2 got the result he wanted, I'm so sorry for those that didn't.

I would have thought unis would look beyond this year's AS results though.

Schools won't have been able to issue predictions until after the results only because of the CAG restrictions. Don't panic just yet! Ask school for their CAGs if you didn't get them automatically.

bluebadgehelp101 · 13/08/2020 12:32

We are just back from the school. I phoned to enquire about the appeals process and they said to come in immediately and apply for the teachers grades. We should get those at the beginning of next week and then will decide whether or not to go to the next stage. It's just a shambles really.

SausageCrush · 13/08/2020 12:54

Our school are concentrating on A Level results today, so have a telephone appointment tomorrow to find out what (if anything) to do next...

DS2 got as he thought / hoped he would in the subjects he intends to continue next year, plus a slightly surprising A in Physics. Although he has fallen out of love with the subject, he could well have stirred his stumps and got the grade in an exam, I suppose, having got a 9 at GCSE.
